Supernatural – The absence of Kripe is in the air

Deb and I once again riff on our thoughts on the latest episode of 'Supernatural', where this time we're very much in complete agreement. Are you with us?

- Season 7, Episode 3 - "The Girl Next Door"

Deb: Keith, it’s over. Wake up!

Keith: I wish I was sleeping. It would have made for more excitement. What the hell did we just watch?

Deb: That was just … not good. Tonight felt like Kripke was truly gone. There was just nothing really worth talking about with this episode besides what wasn’t good about it. Nothing about it sparkled; it was just gory run-of-the-mill TV.

Keith: Now, we don’t want to go and say there’s nothing at all to talk about without mentioning the guest-staring role of Jewel Staite, for fear Firefly fans (which we both are) might want to burn our house down. So something was … shiny! … Ahem. But … that was the definition of a throw-away episode.

Deb: There have been one-off “throw-away” episodes in the past that have been gold, though! I really hope this isn’t an indication that they’re just out of ideas! I will say that I really hated that Dean went and ruined that kid’s life by killing his mother like that.

Keith: Well, he is a demon-thing, too, so there’s that to help you go to sleep at night. But, overall, I think we both agree this was a low point of the season, and I really hope they kick things up a notch next week.

Not sure what show you were watching but it sure wasn’t what I was watching. This had the most old school Kripkefied feel of any episode for over a season. Monsters, brothers, hiding out, trying to find information, talking, trusting, not trusting, gore and jokes, balancing the serious and the tongue in cheek, all the stuff that kicked this show off. Another very strong episode for season 7. A low point for the season? What an inane comment when the season is 3 eps in.

Me: Great episode last night!

Imaginary Friend: I agree!

It would have to be someone imaginary to agree with that. ;-)

I’ve been a proud Supernatural fan since season 1 and have followed the story of the Winchesters with excitement, fear, laughter and tears but now I am honestly starting to believe that ‘Swan Song’ should have been the end. Season 6 was disappointing and so far season 7 hasn’t done anything to reignite my love for the show since the season 5 finale. And this episode I agree I could barely stay awake to watch. The only bit I liked was when Dean punched Sam and he went flying I laughed my ass off! But apart from that I just didn’t care very much and it makes me sad to see a show I love and characters I believe in disappoint me. I want to love the show like I did for 5 years straight, but I just can’t and I don’t know if its too late to save it now.

What are you talking about? I agree with the season 6 thing; it wasn’t very interesting or whatever, however; season 7 is amazing! I love where they are going with the show, I love how they have unexpected turns and I love the character development! Friday’s episode brought back so much of Sam and showed a new side of Dean in my opinion.

Seriously, that’s the recap of the show? “nothing worth talking about”? How about the shocking choice made in the last 5 minutes? This wasn’t the best episode by far, but there were definitely some interesting plot developments and I always enjoy the flashbacks to young Sam.

I’m not sure what show you were watching but I liked the episode, maybe you did change the channel and you didn’t notice it, and I loved the first part where Dean is doped with morphine and he says to Bobby: “Look a monster broke my leg” :) I loved the scenes in the hospital and Sam’s case…….. mmm I thought that’s what the people would want, back to the monsters cases like season 1 and season 2,that you were bored about the “angel things”,,, well who can understand the fans eh!….

Well I like all Supernatural seasons even the season 6 (except for the dog episode I didn’t like it either) that looks like everybody hates , well I think I’m not like the average Supernatural fan….

There was also a Doctor Who reference: “Amy Pond”? How you doing? Hello fellow geeks.

To me this was old school Supernatural.

And yeah I was messed up that Dean made that choice. But he’s a Hunter and that’s what Dean would do.

If you were Canadian I would suspect that you ate your turkey too early and were all logy.
