Army Wives – Now what?

It didn’t really go anywhere, but were Chase and Trevor watching the kids together? Nothing could match when Frank and Michael teamed up as caregivers, but that must have been one crazy night at home for Roxy's and Pamela's kids.

- Season 5, Episode 12 - "Firefight"

Not that it was a major cliffhanger, but some of the heat from Michael’s drunk driving stop on Army Wives had certainly abated by the time the show returned with a new episode last night. In retrospect it seemed like a funny thing to end the episode on two weeks ago … I don’t know.

Anyway, there certainly wasn’t as much fallout as I’d imagined there’d be. I thought the incident, as minor as it was, would lead to a lot of introspection on Michael’s part, ultimately resulting in a career decision. There’s still plenty of time for that, but the fire that was lit under Michael that would have been his catalyst to act has been largely put out by Claudia Joy. It’ll be less emotion and more thought that drives Michael now, which I suppose is his usual way.

Joan and Roland’s struggles with David (McCarrie McCausland) were predictable, and relatively minor (so far). What I don’t understand is 1) Why is this story being rushed along so quickly? David would have run away with that little impetus to? And 2) New TJ’s (Connor Christie) suddenly reaching out to help? I know his behavior has rapidly, and inexplicably, altered, but so soon after he broke Lucas’ (Jake Johnson) arm is it wise to send him out as a mediator?

I was proud of Pamela and her exciting day on the job, although I’m still not sure I’m understanding why Boone (Lee Tergesen) — and his girlfriend — are being brought back into the picture. The last time around Boone’s presence mixed in with Pamela’s potential flight to Atlanta; could there be some connection with Chase’s sudden job offer out in California? Is there a chance that the Morans will be getting divorced twice? Will Boone go psycho for Pamela?

I said long ago that Tanya (Erin Krakow) would become a fixture in Denise’s life. Why it had to take a circuitous route I’m not sure, but at least she’s back. It’ll be good for both of them, plus … did Tanya say something about having a special diet as one of her excuses to Denise? Could she be pregnant with Jeremy’s baby? How long has she been back in the country?

Leave it to Chase to get in Trevor’s head. I vaguely remember a conversation they once had about Delta. I can’t recall if Chase was encouraging Trevor to join or not, but I’m sure whatever it was that he said was more about what Chase would choose to do than what’s right for Trevor. Besides, Frank’s a much better judge of whether or not Trevor would be a good fit for OCS.

Even though that’s interesting, I’m wondering: what’s the point? Trevor gets a bump up the ladder … okay, so? I’m not minimizing his career, just wondering what his and Roxy’s plot trajectory looks like right now. They’ve burned right through a troublesome teen, a new business (what’s happening with the truck stop?), and trouble in their marriage; why does it seem like the LeBlancs only ever have a sustainable story to tell when it’s about Trevor’s military career?

As for Claudia Joy … any thoughts on opening that law practice and defending sexual assault victims in the army? I still think it would be great for her, and great to get that message out in public.
