Burn Notice – Will Michael be unburned?

"My name is Michael Westen. I used to be a spy." A lie-detector test? Really? Isn't faking the test part of the first week curriculum at spy school?

- Season 4, Episode 16 - "Dead or Alive"

A corrupt cop who is wrongly accused because his partner is really the corrupt one … never heard that one before. This is probably one of the least interesting clients the Burn Notice crew has taken on. The only part that was particularly interesting was the “ring of fire,” and the traffic jam ploy was unique. Although the client-of-the-week story was a little blah, it was still worth the watch for that alone.

Add in the continuing storyline of “the list,” and this was a great lead-up to the season finale. I was surprised at the end of the show to see the preview for next week’s two-hour finale. Burn Notice is almost over already? It just came back!

Back to “the list.” It was odd to see Jesse and Michael with the belief that they were about to get their pre-burn lives back. They were relaxed and confident in a new way. I didn’t really like that, but was pretty sure it would be short-lived. How can a show called Burn Notice continue if the main character isn’t … burned? Yet, time and time again Michael is thwarted from clearing his name and eventually he has to, right?

Though the relationship between Michael and Fiona has never  been clarified, what is clear is that they care about each other. I was happy to see Fiona finally realize that she has to let Michael make his own decision, and support his quest to have that choice. Though, it seems counter to common sense that Fiona and Michael’s mother wouldn’t want him to return to a government job and would rather have him continue in his somewhat illegal profession.

Ultimately, the plan to give Marv the list seemed too simple. I was waiting for something drastic to happen and I was not disappointed. Not sure what to make of the cliffhanger, but I will be anxiously awaiting the finale next week. Are you enjoying this season? I am!
