Burn Notice -The return of the younger brother

Nate is back. And, he isn't the idiot brother anymore.

- Season 4, Episode 15 - "Brotherly Love"

In the past, Nate was the brother that made bad decisions, got in trouble or scammed. But, that Nate is no more. Even though his simple case ended up being much more complicated, he was not the victim this time. I enjoyed this mature Nate and for the first time was touched by watching the brothers work together. In the past, it was a troubled and annoying relationship that was a tad rough to watch. Given the big secret reveal of Nate’s impending fatherhood, I expect we will see more of this new and improved Nate. And, I can’t wait to see Uncle Mike!

Michael, Fiona and Nate working on the missing cars, while Sam and Jesse hunted down the list was a little disjointed. It fit the story, but I did miss the team — our team. I really, really missed it. Not enough to turn off the show, but enough to hope it would return and quickly. I was not disappointed. The last segment more than made up for it. I think yearning for the normal team dynamic gave the ending an extra punch.

Special-Forces squads are build around the skills of the individual members. But, no matter how good each member of the squad is, every mission comes down to one thing — how well they work together. Because in the end, you don’t need a hero to succeed in the field. You need a team.” – Michael voice-over

So, what should Michael do with “The List”? I can’t wait to find out. At least it is only one more week until another Burn Notice.

Other thoughts:

  • Mom taking a picture of her boys all dressed up … priceless.
  • “Smooth-talking Johnny” — liked the character, but the voice was annoying. I won’t mind if we don’t see this alias ever again.
  • Fiona, oh Fiona, put on some clothes, please. Well, I’m sure some of you enjoyed it.
  • When will drug dealers realize that their underlings always end up betraying them?
  • The mobile security for “The List” seemed like a pretty poor method, but definitely made for a fun and unique mission.
  • The music and voice-over during the end mission were both perfect for the scene.
  • “The List” was on a USB drive. Umm … why wouldn’t there be another copy?

In other Burn Notice news, according to the official facebook page, Jeffrey Donovan will be directing a two-hourĀ Burn Notice prequel starring Bruce Campbell, as Sam Axe. I’m looking forward to it, though I would be more excited for a Fiona prequel.

One Response to “Burn Notice -The return of the younger brother”

I’ve yet to see this episode, but I’m glad Nate is back. He was the ne’er do well little brother, but toward the end of his appearances of the show he was making progress in the maturity department. In fact, about the time he was written out was when his character was the most likeable, so I’m glad to see him returning.

Personally, I’d much rather have Nate as the extra guy on the team than Jesse. Jesse has always seemed so “bland” to me. I don’t know exactly what it is, but I’ve never really cared for him while Nate at least was growing and becoming someone I’d like to see more of. This is good news.
