Season three, Episodes 4-7
The biggest tie for all of these episodes is Sam. Did he come back from the dead a different sort of Sam? Bobby says demons lie, but yellow eyes sure made Dean wonder, and me too, quite frankly. Yeah, Sam’s mostly still a little girl, but it’s a lot easier for him to kill these days. Whether reality has set in, or his demon side is taking over, only time will tell.
“Sin City”
Dean gets trapped with a demon and learns some lore about Lucifer, Azazel and what was planned for Sam.
Such an interesting episode, and the dynamics between Dean and the demon were fascinating. He never had a soft spot for one before, and although he got that she was evil, he still didn’t want Sam to kill her at the end. Is Dean finally beginning to embrace the many shades of gray?
We learn a bunch about the Sam back story, including the yellow-eyed demon’s name (Azazel) and that Sam has a bunch of demon worshipers out there, waiting for him to lead the army.
Richie the Casanova hunter was a fun character, and even though he might have been entertaining in future episodes, it really fit that his penis led him right into the demon’s lair. I think too that Dean realized that perhaps he ought to look before he leaps head on into the free and easy lifestyle he’s been sporting since his death sentence.
I’m wondering what Bobby has to say about Sam’s blonde stalker (do we know her name yet? I know it’s Ruby but I don’t think it’s been mentioned). She obviously helped him fix the Colt, or gave him a new one, and he accepted her help with no issues that we know of yet at least.
“Bedtime Stories”
A comatose girl’s angry spirit conjures fairy tale murders and watches; Sam summons Dean’s crossroads demon to try to make a deal.
“Dude, could you be more gay?” – Dean to Sam when he retells the story of Cinderella
The most notable thing about this episode is that Sandra McCoy, Jared Padalecki’s ex-fiance, plays Dean’s crossroads demon. Worst. Actress. Ever. Pretty fun watching Sam smoke her lameness with the Colt. So sweet, though, that Sam just can’t let Dean go, and he’s fighting for Dean’s life more than Dean is.
I suppose the other thing worth mentioning is that this is the first unsettled spirit the boys have dealt with that is actually still alive: the comatose girl. It makes sense, and it is yet another clever storytelling device by Kripke. I however have nothing to say about the fairy tales. OK, yes I do — weird, gross and bizarre, but also pretty funny, especially the three brothers arguing over how to build houses.

“Red Sky at Morning”
Anyone who sees a ghost ship drowns inexplicably, Bella reappears and Sam dates an octogenarian.
Let’s just get this out in the open right away — that was absolutely the least sexy shower scene I have ever seen and that woman deserved to be killed in a most horrifying way. There, I said it. Producer’s daughter, ya think?
The rest of this episode was hilarious, one laugh after another, but my favorite part was Sam’s lady friend groping him at the museum function (Mrs. Havisham … priceless). Or maybe the banter between Dean and Bella:
We learn a secret about Bella, too, that she somehow spilled the blood of one of her family. She’s perhaps darker than we thought….
“Fresh Blood”
Gordon escapes from prison, gets turned into a vampire, kills, maims, hunts down Sam and gets beheaded.
Way to shout-out to Buffy, Supernatural! How much fun was it to see Mercedes McNab as a vampire again? Granted, she was beheaded by Dean before her part got too meaty, but really, with that voice, you can’t go anywhere but to Harmony-land.
So, I kid you not, I said to Keith at the beginning of this episode that Gordon’s eyes always look bloodshot to me… how funny that I wasn’t even close to experiencing his bloodshot eyes once he turned all vampy. And he was one wicked vamp. It brought me back to that episode where Gordon wanted to kill the vampires who didn’t drink human blood. You don’t have to be a bloodthirsty killer just because you are a vampire, in Supernatural lore anyway, and it just proves what a violent, disturbed person Gordon was.
Just when I thought Gordon was totally gross, ripping the heads off the newly turned girls, yanking the heart out of his friend, stalking Sam for fun, well… Sam trumps him by squeezing Gordon’s head off. You see what I mean about Sam? Something’s not quite “little girl” about him all the time now.
I was glad to see Sam call Dean out on his reckless behavior, and I enjoyed the Auto Shop 101 scene at the end, with Dean teaching Sam how to repair the Impala. If nothing else, their brotherly bond is stronger than ever.

Now we get to one of the fundamental differences between you and I Deb. If Sandra McCoy really was the worst actress ever, she’s so dang pretty that I didn’t even notice. :D I know, shallow, but honest! It makes me wonder if we’ll be at odds on Bella when you get a little further into the season.

HA! So far, I like Bella, in all her evil shallowness, and I hope they explore what was hinted at in the Ghost Ship episode, when only people who spilled family blood were targeted.
They sure will explore that hint about Bela in “Red Sky”. Still I beleive Bela’s story suffered a lot from the writer’s srike as they had only a few episodes left and had tons of stuff to wrap up. Bela got an episode for her story, but I’m pretty sure they would tell us more if they ever got a chance.
I loved Sandra McCoy as the crossroads demon.
