Poll: Which Sex and the City Character are you? – SATC Week

Which 'Sex and the City' character are you? Are you Samantha, the pool boy seductress; Charlotte, the innocent art girl; Miranda, the sarcastic lawyer; or Carrie, the intrepid writer? Or are you all four at once?

When Sex and the City hit its stride, the question I typically noticed in most on-line polls surrounded: “Which Sex and the City Character are you?” Even if almost everyone and their mother asks that question, I can’t do a Sex and the City theme week without asking it of myself.

When the show first started in 1998, I identified with Carrie 123%. As a young English major just starting her career, I felt naive and hopeful yet free-spirited and fun. But, by the time the show ended in 2004, I was Miranda 157%. I was a professional woman, fully enmeshed in her career, tired of dealing with the egotistical big boys, and with a tongue as sharp, caustic and sarcastic as all get out. However, eight years after the show’s finale, my answer changed again. As I stride unabashedly (or a little abashedly) into my mid-to-late 30s, I identify more with Samantha Jones. I’m more adventurous, take myself less seriously and can’t stop flirting with the young pretty boys around me. Hell, when I started writing this piece, I uncovered a little bit of good Charlotte in me, as well. Whenever I feel worried or concerned, my eyes become ten times wider and I can’t stop apologizing or looking to the people around me for answers.

So, whenever someone asks: “Which character are you?” I sigh and roll my eyes, because I’ve realized the answer isn’t one, it’s all of them. No woman can reduce herself to one person. Depending on her age, feelings, or life stage, she’s either one, none, or all.

So, now, dear reader, I put the question to you … which Sex and the City character are you and why?
