What’s your favorite ABC sitcom? – Poll

Vote in our poll to tell us your favorite current ABC sitcom, and follow along and play with us each week as we narrow down the favorites from all the networks. When we finally pit them against each other, which network television live-action sitcom do you think will come out on top?

This poll is the start of something big, folks. It may look on the surface that it’s merely a poll asking what your favorite ABC sitcom is. But there’s so much more … this is only the beginning. Call it the 2012 Comedy Bracket, or the 2012 Comedy Madness, if you will. In the next few weeks, we’ll also pick your favorite CBS, NBC and FOX comedies. Then we’ll pit the winners against each other, in the style of the NCAA … not that we can legally say the term coined by them for all of the maniacal basketball showdowns in March. But I’m sure you’re with me.

Too much drama for just a few sitcoms? We don’t think so (well, some of us …), because we know how devoted show fans can be. It will be fun to see how this whole thing shakes out — what do you think will be the favorite live-action sitcom currently on network television?

Starting with ABC this week, here’s what CliqueClack had to say:

Debbie:

While Modern Family and Happy Endings consistently make me laugh, which is more than I can say for most sitcoms, the crown has to go to Cougar Town. It is so unique, and there’s something to be said for watching characters you can relate to. No, I probably wouldn’t construct elaborate murder scenes to save my marriage, but I would totally wear a wine glass necklace. The quirkiness completely appeals to my sense of humor and they’ve never taken it too far. Everything about Cougar Town is so well done … except, perhaps, its title.

An:

Cougar Town. Hands down. Its return episode started out slow. But, the second episode returned to fighting form (with still a few slow parts). I love Bill Lawrence‘s free association comedy. But because ABC has tried everything to kill it, because it returned with lower numbers, and because Lawrence has a new comedy on another network, I’m slowly preparing myself to say goodbye (cue Boyz II Men singing in the background) …

Ivey:

I didn’t watch any of these with any regularity until recently. I’d been tuning in to Revenge earlier and earlier each week to see more and more of Happy Endings. It officially made my Season Pass list last week. I really want to like Suburgatory, but it just doesn’t happen.

 Debbie:

I feel the same way about Suburgatory, because the pilot was really cute and I liked the father/daughter relationship. And who doesn’t love Alan Tudyk! But it’s just not funny enough.

And that was one of the funniest episodes of Happy Endings so far … the birds, Brad accusing Jane of having a stroke, so funny.

Chuck:

I really like The Middle, but I love Suburgatory. I know it’s basically a mash-up of Clueless and Mean Girls, but I really like Jane Levy‘s Tessa, and I especially like all of the supporting characters. Love Dalia and what Carly Chaikin can do with just a sideways glance, and I have really come to appreciate Cheryl Hines‘ portrayal of Dallas, who I thought started off as a bimbo, desperate housewife but is really smarter than she seems on the surface. Allie Grant’s Lisa has also grown on me as her character has started to grow over the course of the season. The writing is smart and sometimes I have to rewind to make sure I didn’t miss something I thought I saw or heard. I just find it charming and clever.

Michael:

I dig The Middle.

The situations are often Hillary-arious and over the top. It’s nice to get lost in some inane comedy every once in a while … I mean … besides what Ivey offers up …

None of the others trip my trigger.

Aryeh:

You can add me to Michael’s card!

Tara:

Mine has got to be The Middle. It’s just a half hour of complete fun. The writing is consistent and the cast is strong. And how can anyone not love Sue or Brick?

Keith:

I’ll vote Modern Family, though it’s a tight race against Cougar Town. The tipping point is that Modern Family has broader appeal than Cougar Town. Hell, kids could even watch parts of Modern FamilyCougar Town, notsomuch.

Julia:

I’m going with Happy Endings. It was a tough call between that and Cougar Town, but what tipped it for me was that while both regularly give me the warm and fuzzies, Happy Endings makes me laugh out loud way more often than Cougar Town does. Though really, a butterfly might flap its wings in Burma and tomorrow I’ll have changed my mind.

Vote once a day until the poll expires on Sunday night, March 11 at 11:59 p.m. Good luck to your favorite!

Currently my favorite is Happy Endings and then a tie between Suburgatory and Modern Family.

The rest I do not watch

Modern Family edges Happy Endings for me. I watched the first couple seasons of The Middle but ultimately it was a little too bleak and hate-filled for me to really enjoy watching it. I want to give Cougar Town another shot, especially with Abed’s approval. (-:

Suburgatory and Happy Endings are the best now, I also love The Middle.

I think it has to go to Happy Endings, the cast really flows well, and the gay character on the show is real and not the normal gay stereotype you get on TV.

Tried ‘em all, don’t really care for any of them enough to be a regular viewer. Maybe I’m getting too old and curmudgeonly, but I don’t find any of them very funny. The only sitcoms I currently watch are “Community” and “Raising Hope,” neither of which are on ABC. Maybe it’s the network itself as I can only think of one show I watch on it and that’s “Once Upon A Time” which I’m lukewarm on, especially lately.

Don’t mind me, I’m gassy which puts me in a bad mood.

Cougar Town. ALL. THE. WAY.

None…I don’t forgive ABC for the way they treated Better With You last season. I don’t understand the hype that these other shows get.

Cougar Town gets no hype from ABC at all. They’ve buried it at Tues. @8:30 following the unmatched “Last Man Standing” and offering virtually no promotion. Give it a chance…horrible title, incredible show.

COUGAR TOWN! Bad title, great comedy, getting better & better, they are so crazy but sweet and the friendship in the show is like a family! I love all the characters and all the relationships (it’s rare) Take a look!!! It’s not about cougars (since episode 7 season 1) but about the Crew + Tom, addicted to whine, crazy, funny, sometimes moving, crazy/weird gamessongs/dances, penny can, and more!
