Eureka – Introducing Sninja!

This year the 'Eureka' Christmas special goes toon-style and is sure to be a new annual holiday favorite!

- Season 5, Episode 13 - "Do You See What I See"

The Eureka Christmas episode, “Do You See What I See,” had me smiling from the beginning to the end. While the story was definitely a Eureka episode, it could just as easily be a new annual holiday special. Even though the show has been canceled after next season, I hope Syfy airs this episode again each December.

The use of animation styles that matched the storytelling was brilliantly done. As was the casting of Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory) as Carter’s Jeep, Carl, and Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica) as Rudy, the head dog. And, the musical score from Bear McCreary complemented it all.

The characters were accurately captured in their animation. Carter as Dudley Do-Right and Andy as various robots, but my favorites had to be Fargo as a bobble-head, Henry as the pull-string doll, and Jo as Jo White. The reveal of Taggert as the bear was a nice surprise.

Overall, my favorite few seconds on screen were when Carter, Andy and Jo changed into characters from Charlie Brown, Simpsons, South Park, and Scooby Doo. It’s amazing how well they fit their cartoon character.

The best original character is sure to be a new cult Christmas favorite — SNINJA! The perfect homage to the Abominable Snowman.

My only complaint about the episode was the lack of Zane. But, that is just because I love Zane and would have enjoyed seeing an animated Zane and Jo together. Given the story, though, I understand why he was absent.

Even though Eureka is a crazy city, its inhabitants are just people with families. This was the story of Carter and Allison combining their families for the first time at the holidays. It was a joy to see Zoe, Kevin and Jenna get along together. When the “toon” crisis was over, not only did their family celebrate, but their close friends too. That’s what the holidays are all about!

Here are a few favorite quotes:

“This is Christmas not Call of Duty.” – Zoe

“Are you looking up my dress?” – Jo
“Nooo” – Carter and Andy

“Damn, these glass slippers are murder.” – Jo

“Well, at least we’re three-dimensional again.” – Carter
“Yeah, but I’m freezing my nuts off. And, my bolts!” – Andy

“We’re going to need a bigger snowball.” – Fargo

“So this is your fault? Awesome!” – Carter

“What … is … that?” – Allison
“A giant snow ninja.” – Carter
“And, it’s heading for Eureka.” – Jo

“Ninja.” – Jenna

“We’re changing again.” — Fargo
“Into what?” — Henry
“Ass kickers!” — Fargo

“Sayonara, Sninja.”

“You can believe it or not. But, you did hear it from a talking house, so I’d say anything is possible.” – SARAH

I guess I’ll just ask the question: Community 2010 Holiday episode, anyone?

Does anyone know the the Sninja is saying? as well as the singers in the background during the Anime part?

On the plus side, lack of Zane meant we got cocky, kickass Jo instead of mopey Jo.

It was weird seeing Zoe and Kevin interact as equals. I still remember her as the cocky teenager and him as the quiet little kid that only talked to Carter.

Loved S.A.R.A.H. as the holiday storyteller.
