Game of Thrones – How far do I need to read? Episode 3

The second episode of Game of Thrones caused some controversy amongst fans of the original series of books. Be it too much sex, too many changes or not enough of certain characters, it didn’t seem that very many people were happy. But Carla seemed to like it, and Bob and I were pretty much unfazed by the differences. Looking towards “What is Dead May Never Die,” I suspect purist fans of A Song of Ice and Fire who are expecting a completely loyal adaption will continue to be frustrated.

Each week – as long as HBO sends us advance screeners – we will attempt to let you know exactly how far one would have to read to stay ahead of the series. The goal is to make these posts as spoiler-free as possible, just sharing information on which chapter you’d have to read. Also, I’ll be leaning on Tower of the Hand, a great reference for fans of ASOIF and Game of Thrones – their spoiler filters are ingenious – as a touchstone for which chapter I’m referring to.

For the third episode, “What is Dead May Never Die” one would need to have read through Chapter 26: Tyrion VI. The pace of this episode is much different than its two predecessors this season. There is also a great deal more new or re-imagined content that pulls bits and pieces of conversations from all over. But as long as you’ve read as far is this, you’ll be in great shape.
