Okay … let’s think about this for a minute.
You done thinking? Good. Then I’ll offer my opinion:
We haven’t seen anything we didn’t know was coming anyway.
If American Idol was going to put possible controversial figures behind the judge’s table, don’t you think there might be controversial comments coming out of their mouths? Especially from a certain rocker?
Duh. Common sense.
Here’s what I dream might be coming out of this rumored (?) “apology” this Thursday …
- “We, The American Idol Powers That Be, apologize to the viewing public for Ellen DeGeneres having been put on the show in the first place. In hindsight, it was … oh, never mind. Forget it. You know what a monumental mistake that was. Let’s just let bygones be bygones. What say you?”
- “We, The American Idol Powers That Be, apologize to the viewing public for all the doomsayers who prophesied the demise of Idol sans Simon Cowell. The report of such was greatly exaggerated. Understand there’s not much we can do to control those rumors and only so much our ultimate powers can accomplish …”
- “We, The American Idol Powers That Be, apologize if you’ve been sucked in by the ooey, gooey goodness Steven Tyler puts out there week after week. We know a lot of you really wanted to hate him, but we also know, deep down, you’re loving him like it’s your job. Are we right? Yeah … we thought so.”
What do you think? Let’s here it.

My theory is that it will just be an excuse to show some of the “best of” moments from Tyler from the past few episodes. The idea: put out a story making it seem like his behavior is bad, people tune in, they see his funniest moments, they just can’t bring themselves to change the channel.
“We are sorry this shit is still wasting three hours of time on Fox. We will say sorry again once we get Fringe canceled.”
While I do hate to think of Fringe getting cancelled, I like your “apology” the best by far. I can’t see how people still remain so entertained by a singing competition after all this time. Then again, I remain perplexed by the continued existence of wrestling which has just slightly more social merit than a ridiculous singing competition.
What do you call a male cougar, any way? I don’t think Idol will be apologizing for Steven’s leering. After all, look how much they promoted one judge’s season of drooling over a shirtless man.
However, I expect that Idol is getting FCC pressure over Steven Tyler’s bleeps. It is one thing to have an occasional contestant in a moment of extreme emotion let fly with a non-airways worthy obscenity. But I imagine the producers will ultimately be told that they are responsible to control the bleeped language of their on-air personalities since they are employees.
Anyone know what warning label Idol has to use at the beginning of the show? With 15 yr. old contestants, I think it would be reasonable to expect “family-friendly” guidelines.
[Egads! Nice Nyela must have had lunch with Pricilla Prissy to make that Victorian Age comment!!]
Showing Kara DioGuardi wearing a bikini!
I think they want to apologize yet again for Sanjaya…. ever being allowed to step upon the idol stage.
