So what did we learn about Cara this week (besides the fact that she’s preternaturally awesome)?
Revelation #1: She had a son with Darken Rahl. Surprise! I didn’t think Rahl would let any of his Mord-Sith get pregnant in the first place. How can they kick butt and torture innocent people while they’re with child? And those red leather outfits probably don’t come in maternity sizes. While Darken Rahl and Cara always had sizzling chemistry, this twist was too weird to last. And while I’m sorry for Cara that her dastardly baby daddy snuffed out Rahl Jr. at birth, I’m also relieved that we don’t have to follow this tangent any further.
Revelation #2: Cara has a girlfriend named Dahlia … and their scenes might just wear out the rewind button in the homes of fanboys everywhere (If you haven’t seen the episode yet, don’t get too excited by my hyperbole — it’s mostly just kissing). What’s interesting about this to me is that in Blood of the Fold (sequel to Stone of Tears), Richard has three Mord-Sith who serve as his bodyguards — Berdine, Cara, and Raina — and Berdine eventually reveals to Richard that she and Raina are lovers. So in Seeker, although we don’t have Berdine or Raina, that aspect of their characters seems to have been absorbed into Cara.
Revelation #3: Cara has been broken. Call me gullible … but I admit that when she busted Zedd out of Rahl’s lair, I almost believed that she had survived the enhanced Agiel treatment. But that would have been such a cop-out way to end the episode, wouldn’t it? I really like having bad Cara back. We sometimes forget about the brutality that shaped her. She made so much progress over the course of the season, to the point that last week she admitted her affection for Richard, Kahlan, and Zedd. Now that she’s rejoined the Mord-Sith, the contrast between her before and after is that much stronger.
In other news … Richard and Kahlan finally found the Stone of Tears! *GASP* Admit it — you thought they were lost and Richard was just pretending to know where he was going because he didn’t want to stop and ask for directions.
The Stone was being guarded by a bunch of creepy people in a land protected by a magical boundary. The Stone’s guardians were the only aspect of this episode that I did not enjoy. That Asa fellow had the most annoying smile, and his weird people would have fit perfectly in an episode of Star Trek: The Original Series. I thought the simultaneous praying/chanting was cornier than Iowa. Come on, writers … let’s move past the cliche portrayal of religious people. That’s either being lazy, or dumbing it down for the audience — much like reducing the Sisters of the Dark to ninja banshees.
Despite that small gripe, I enjoyed this episode a lot. Richard and Kahlan talked a lot about having babies together, even as they acknowledged that they can’t be together because of Kahlan’s magic. But Richard tells Kahlan that he doesn’t think her magic will harm him because “I can’t possibly love you more than I already do.” That is, in fact, the answer to their problem. I’m sure they’ll figure it out soon. We only have two episodes left after all.

i loved it!! it is now my favorite episode folled by torn.
Did anyone else wonder how long it actually took to break Cara? I mean, she was looking quite beat up, like in the pic for this post, and then when she was broken, she was all healed up. Healing magic I guess? But then in the books it took weeks to break Richard and if you look at how long Richard and Kahlan were trying to escape the valley during this episode, it couldn’t have been more than a day. So Cara was trained in a day? I guess with only a fortnight to get to the Pillars of Creation, they don’t have much time to work with.
Did anyone else have problems with this timeline?
It seems that she was only broken so quickly due to that special Agiel, which the Sisters of the Dark made extra painful.
Like you, I wondered how her injuries healed so quickly – the only explanation I can think of is that she was healed by magic. Darken Rahl supposedly doesn’t have his magic anymore (according to last week’s episode), so I would assume that the Sisters of the Dark healed her after she was broken.
Yeah, I also wondered about her healing. But think about it: she wouldn’t be much use to Darken Rahl if she was all beat up. It’s logical that he had her healed before he sent her out to retrieve the Stone of Tears.
I loved this episode because it showed us so much of Cara. We saw how strong her love is for Richard, Kahlan and Zedd now, and it’s heartbreaking to see it all taken away from her again. But like the person who wrote this, I LOVED seeing bad Cara back! I was actually cheering when she attacked Zedd. Haha. She’s one tough girl.
The episode was GREAT! Tabrett Bethell is beautiful and her being bad again just makes her look even better. However I liked her soft side too and I loved her affection for Richard, Kahlan and Zedd. I thought the baby thing was just a little to much but, whatever. It’s still a FANTASTIC show!
PS- CARA IS SMOKIN’!!!!!!
Cara isn’t broken, the Keeper’s dark magic is controlling her.

Tab was amazing in this episode! She should be nominated for an Emmy…
