Ten reasons why last night’s Trauma proves that its cancellation sucks

I’ve already waxed poetic (or very much not so) on NBC’s cancellation of Trauma. Spoiler Alert: I think it was a ill-advised move. Since I’ve been covering the show since it premiered (heck, before it premiered), the illustrious editorial team here at CliqueClack asked me if I wanted to continue covering it (as I seem to be the standard barer for covering shows after their cancellation). I want to continue because I’m such a fan of the show (I think it’s much better than the recently saved Southland), but only if I can abstain from continued whining about its cancellation.
This post is obviously the exception that will hopefully prove the rule.
If I hate reality TV, why am I drawn to Hell’s Kitchen?

To say that I hate reality television unfortunately isn’t much of an overstatement. I recognize that there is some quality programming in the genre, but I think that the genre, in general, has done more to hurt scripted programming than they have to help television in general. Shows like Survivor, American Idol, and The Amazing Race (shows that I will give their due credit) have given rise to an industry that now provides programming like Who Wants to Marry a Multi-Millionaire, More to Love, and Who’s Your Daddy.
I blame reality television for the death of shows like Journeyman, Firefly, and Life. Right, wrong, or indifferent, I do. But as much as I detest the genre, I still have managed to get sucked into Hell’s Kitchen. I watched a couple episodes this spring when I was visiting my parents (My mom is a fan). When nothing else was on tonight, I was pulled right back in.

Eli Stone: Just another reason to stop giving network television a chance

When I look at this year’s slate of the networks’ new offerings, it’s pretty disappointing. When I compare it to the 2007 slate, it’s downright depressing. What makes the whole thing suck more (and suck is the right word here), is that so many of the shows I instantly fell in love with that year were canceled quickly (Journeyman, K-Ville), or were given just enough rope to hang themselves in the second season (Life, Sarah Connor Chronicles).
There are also those other shows that I’m now giving a second chance (Moonlight) and those that as much as I might have liked them in the beginning, I won’t miss (Pushing Daisies). For the record, I’m not recognizing Private Practice, as I just don’t think it deserves it. Oh, Chuck and Gossip Girl rule.
Hiatus is over: Praying for a Grey’s Anatomy Death Toll
Forgive me all you Katherine Heigl fans out there, but it’s time for Izzie Stevens of Grey’s Anatomy to go.
And forgive me all you readers who are sick of this topic, but I need to express these emotions; it’s cathartic. Give it a try … maybe if enough of us do it, Shonda Rhimes will listen.
Anyway, I know what you’re all thinking: beautiful doctor, lingerie model, great actress. How can you hate that? Because you see, I don’t just have a problem with Heigl’s current arc, I have a problem with her character (and with her as an actress) overall. This is just the final straw. So how about we look at things a little differently? Like blonde doesn’t mean attractive, everyone wears underwear (and strips down to it) on the show, and whiny doesn’t translate into genuine. Where’s the plus that Heigl brings to the table? Read the rest of this entry »
Ode to shows past (or, my secret shame) – Guest Clack
Today’s guest clacker is Aryeh S. who, with his wife and infant son, are transplanted New Yorkers, temporarily living in the quaint village of Philadelphia. He and his wife look forward to the day when their son sleeps past 5am … it will also make it easier for them to clean up the 75 hour backlog on their DVR.
Every fall (these days its all year round) we cozy up to a new lineup of shows, knowing full well that many of them won’t be seeing us through the winter. But over the past four years (okay, that’s as far as I can reference back), a plethora of gold (and pewter) has been ripped from the airwaves faster than our DVR guides can update. Here is my “Ode to Shows Past (or, My Secret Shame).”
DISCLAIMER: If your favorite show is missing, it was edited out after I submitted this. I loved (insert show name) too!
