Poll: What canceled series needs wrapping up the most?

A lot of TV series have been canceled, leaving us hanging. If you could see a wrap-up movie of any of them, which series would you choose?

It seems that more and more shows are being canceled lately without much warning, which leaves the viewers unsatisfied. Cliffhangers hang for eternity and questions plague the dreams of loyal fans. It’s ugly, folks, and something’s got to be done. What if you could choose your favorite canceled series and get a wrap-up movie made?

I’m torn between choosing Kyle XY and Reaper for this one. I was so excited when I heard there was going to be a wrap-up for Kyle XY on the DVD set. When I got it and found that they gave Julie Plec about seven minutes in commentary and old clips to do the lamest wrap-up ever, I was sorely disappointed. There was so much set-up in the season three finale that I was excited about … tough cookies, I guess.

Reaper too, left us with a lot of unanswered questions, mainly Oliver family secrets and how Sam fits into the whole plan. And really, we could all use more of Ray Wise as The Devil. Although I suppose we got a little resolution in Keith’s interview with Reaper’s creators, where they reveal their endgame. I still want to see it on my flat screen!

Let’s see what some of the other Clackers have to say….

IVEY: To me, the show most worthy of a wrap up is Journeyman. It was the best science fiction show on network television — hell, on all of television — in a long time. That being said, the show’s finale left the series in enough of a right place, I’m not sure a wrap up is necessary. So I’d much rather get some answers to Defying Gravity. Which left us out there hanging on a tree branch.

BOB: Terminator was one of my favorite shows while it was on, which was a complete surprise to me. I never thought it would be as good as it was, and I would love to watch a wrap up movie. And no, Terminator 3 and Terminator Salvation do not count! [What? You don’t want to see your Heroes TV movie ideas come to pass?]

KEITH: I’m with Bob on Terminator. He told me it was good, and I had watched the first season up to the finale but just never ventured beyond that. After a marathon session of catching up, I agree it needs a wrap-up of some kind. There’s actually a small video of Thomas Dekker saying he’s pretty sure a movie will be coming.

A lot of people have asked me to ask creator Josh Friedman for a rundown of how the show would have progressed beyond season two, but my chances aren’t good. For one thing, that video. For another, he writes once in a while for io9.com — if he’s not telling THEM, then why would he give us the scoop (then again, maybe they are afraid to ask). And then there’s the fact that I think he’s a little coo-coo.

Have you had enough time to think about your answer? If your choice isn’t in the poll, be sure to leave a comment!

What about Stargate Atlantis?

July 7, 2010 at 1:17 PM

From what I’ve read in assorted articles concerning the Stargate franchises is that there were more movies planned for both SG1 and SGA. Unfortunately, right now MGM is working through some tough financial times, so the movie projects are on hold, but the latest news blurb about MGM that I’ve read said signs were good for them to be straightening out all their money problems. One of the first articles I read about MGM and their cash woes was that it could possibly affect SGU. And by “affect” I mean cancel, but I think that’s a long-shot.

It might be another year or so, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see some more movies from the earlier franchises. Here’s an article about the first SGA movie that’s already been written, but nothing more than that has gone ahead because of the money issues. https://www.gateworld.net/movies/05.shtml

July 7, 2010 at 12:52 PM

Brett, our resident SG expert, didn’t nominate it! I watch SGU but had no idea how SGA ended, so didn’t know it could use a wrap-up.

July 7, 2010 at 1:08 PM

I have to say TSCC out of loyalty. It did have somewhat of an ending, but it would be fantastic to see how it would have progressed. It took me months and months to get over my resentement of it being canceled, so I could watch T Salvation. (Which was a mess!)

Defying Gravity grew so much, it had potential to become great.

July 7, 2010 at 1:10 PM

Huh? Atlantis didn’t need a wrapup

SPOILER

the team came home, complete with the whole city, and landed in the San Francisco Bay

https://www.gateworld.net/atlantis/s5/520.shtml

July 7, 2010 at 5:01 PM

I agree. They practically put a red bow on this ending.

July 7, 2010 at 1:41 PM

There’s a whole slew of Fox shows that I want wrapped up. Most notably Tru Calling and Reunion. They’re both older than most of the other shows mentioned, but I still miss them. Also Pushing Daisies. Pushing Daisies deserved way better than it got.

July 7, 2010 at 1:54 PM

Middleman! There’s too little talk of that show. It was just too good to die so young.

July 7, 2010 at 2:52 PM

Boo on me.

I loved the show and it even crossed my mind for the poll, but I dismissed it, thinking no one would even remember it at this point. Should have nominated it…

July 7, 2010 at 3:19 PM

Since I don’t think either of the two principal actors are busy right now, why can’t we have a resurrection of “The Middleman” and not just a wrap-up? I’m pretty sure Natalie Morales is out of “White Collar” and the last thing I saw Matt Keeslar on was “Dollhouse” and all that did was make me miss the show more.

July 7, 2010 at 5:06 PM

How on earth did I forget this? I adored that show. The Middleman would have received my vote for sure. Oh well… let’s all blame Bob for not nominating it. ;-)

July 7, 2010 at 6:42 PM

Oh, now I am kicking myself for not including Middleman in the poll — how could I forget that show? I mean, how could the entire writing staff of CliqueClack forget that show? ;-)

OK, where did the tabs for making italics go? How is it that I can format an entire post but I’m a commenting moron??

July 8, 2010 at 1:45 AM

Debbie, I’m a commenting moron, too. I see all the tags I can use, but I don’t know what most of them mean. I’d give some a go, but the “edit comment” window gets funny on me after about 5 lines of text. It won’t scroll down, it just bounces back up even though I can type, but not see it.

I think from the comments we should call “The Middleman” a write-in candidate. It had the kind of odd humor I like and was a sort-of superhero version of “Better Off Ted.” There should be a channel that only airs shows you have to pay attention to. Shows like, but certainly not limited to, the ones I mentioned. Problem with most TV viewers is they don’t want to be challenged or even entertained. They just want to see people fail or wrestle in speedos. No, I’m not bitter…people just suck. Present company excluded of course.

July 8, 2010 at 11:29 PM

Use the em tag for italics.

July 9, 2010 at 12:56 AM

If the em tag is for italics, what’s the ‘i’ tag for?

July 7, 2010 at 3:11 PM

Very tough call. TSCC and Defying Gravity are my votes. I’d like them both back, but voted TSCC. When you see good programs that last only one or two seasons replaced by crappy programs that last only one or two seasons, it really makes you want those good programs back. The quest for ratings is a huge gamble and I’d like to see some sacrifices made for quality. Then I wouldn’t be such a network hater.

July 7, 2010 at 8:12 PM

Defying Gravity. So many intriguing plot threads left dangling. Plus I liked all the characters – I wanted to see more.

July 7, 2010 at 8:41 PM

Odyssey 5 by far, and sadly LOST.

July 7, 2010 at 9:00 PM

Journeyman is the show I liked most from this list, but in retrospect, I thought it had a pretty great ending. Not an ending, but a nice exclamation point, anyway. I’m sure there were more stories to tell there, but I don’t feel like I was cheated out of an ending.

So I voted for Terminator, which was surprisingly deep and had a great storyline with lots of growth potential (this coming from someone who had never bothered with more than the first Terminator movie, since big action movies don’t interest me).

July 8, 2010 at 4:35 AM

The Middleman was so great!!!

In the poll i go for TSCC, but the cancellation that hurt the most for me was Dark Angel (i know… is an oldie but a goody).

July 8, 2010 at 8:14 AM

Terminator Sarah Connor….The end of season 2 was just not enough for me. I nned closure to this story!!
I’m still going through withdrawls from not having a season 3
This was a top notch show, with good writing and even better acting.
The frustration of having it cancelled and having Dollhouse win the Friday night spot was beyond words.
I only wish another network had picked up the show ( SyFy or some other)

July 8, 2010 at 8:55 AM

TSCC Born to run was not an ending we need closure

July 8, 2010 at 9:45 AM

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Fantastic performances by all. Top notch writing.
Lena Headey blew me away with her performance as Sarah Connor.
FOX did the wrong thing canceling TSCC and renewing Dollhouse instead. They know they were wrong but are too arrogant to admit their mistake. We need closure! We need a season 3! A DVD movie is not enough to wrap up this great series.

July 8, 2010 at 12:29 PM

Wow..hard one. Defying Gravity…Flashforward…Moonlight? I loved them all. Flashforward was a bit rough, but it left me wondering who…what…when.

July 8, 2010 at 12:34 PM

Ah, Moonlight — another good one that should have been on the list!

July 8, 2010 at 3:08 PM

The Dresden Files could also had have used some more episodes to wrap up (I was SURE about a second season after the first one ended because of the many open questions and hints).

July 8, 2010 at 5:13 PM

I vote Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

I need to know for sure that John Connor finds Cameron in the future, that they married and had many cyborgs.

July 8, 2010 at 5:22 PM

Josh Friedman din’t provide an answer for the biggest question of season 3 : would John Connor choose allison from Palmdale or Cameron?

And you, are you team allison or team Cameron?

July 8, 2010 at 11:16 PM

TSCC season 2 ended with one of the biggest cliffhanger of television history (won’t spoil the thing for those who haven’t bought the DVD’s).

The last episode (Born to Run) was a season finale and not a serie finale : we TSCC-fans need a closure.

July 9, 2010 at 12:09 AM

Can’t wait to see back summer Glau on television.
She was the most popular character on TSCC.
She did a great job playing Cameron, evolving from a “blind” cyborg killer to a “feeling”” cyborg.
But we still don’t what her personal agenda really was and what her real mission was, except protecting John Connor of course.

That’s one of the many reasons i want a continuation of TSCC.

July 9, 2010 at 12:16 AM

Listen, and understand. That terminator fan-base is out there. It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until Josh Friedman gives us answers.

July 9, 2010 at 7:00 AM

There was too many story-arc on TSCC; some of them are solved but there is so many unsolved.
We need closure!
I don’t care how you do but you must find a way to make Josh Friedman confess what season 3 would have been!

July 9, 2010 at 7:04 AM

Josh Friedman is a little coo-coo?

How can you say that, he is a great writer and producer; it’s simply that the average us viewer cannot reach his genius.

Fooled you!!!!!

July 10, 2010 at 2:40 AM

The Sarah Connor Chronicles is the best way to continue the Terminator franchise.

July 10, 2010 at 2:42 AM

Bring TSCC back. The last two movies were garbage.

July 10, 2010 at 2:44 AM

Bring us back The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Summer Glau!!
The fans deserves to have answers to the many questions that were unsolved.

July 10, 2010 at 2:45 AM

We need Terminator:the Sarah Connor Chronicles back on TV. It was quite simply the biggest reason to turn on the TV. TSCC had a HUGE international following, but that counts for nothing in the US, it’s a damn shame, a damn waste.

T3 was a lolfest.

T4 was a cringefest.

T5 should be set before T3 and start a new timeline. A timeline with Cameron in it :)

July 10, 2010 at 2:47 AM

Bring back tscc, or a feature film with Josh Friedman at the helm, and a TSCC story line.

July 11, 2010 at 1:11 AM

TSCC with John and Cameron!!!!
And Moonlight with Mick and Beth!!!

Those two shows, TSCC and Moonlight, need movies asap!

July 11, 2010 at 1:22 AM

My words exactly!

July 15, 2010 at 3:00 AM

TSCC is a fantastic show. I miss it so.

July 15, 2010 at 6:55 AM

TSCC is intelligent piece of television.
It’s a shame FOX cancelled it.

July 15, 2010 at 6:56 AM

Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles does a grand job with the symbolism and plot-archs, with a grand cast and a quality, witty script that is INTELLIGENT.

July 15, 2010 at 6:57 AM

TSCC is the best serie 4ever and everrrr,,,,,,,,

July 15, 2010 at 7:04 AM

Hopefully we will have a Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles continuation; i love the cast (especially Summer Glau and BAG) and each episode is original. The actors, writers, directors and all of the people behind the scenes are exceptionally talented.

July 15, 2010 at 7:16 AM

I love The Sarah Connor Chronicles. So many plot unsolved.

July 15, 2010 at 7:17 AM

hell yea for TSCC!

July 15, 2010 at 7:18 AM

Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles was great and i couldnt believe it was being canceled so soon.
Can’t wait for a continuation!

July 15, 2010 at 7:39 AM

The Sarah Connor Chronicles! The only show (apart from “The X-Files” back in the 90s) I bothered to watch. Lena Headey had some pretty big shoes to fill and boy, did she fill them! Plus, Summer Glau, Shirley Manson and the rest of the cast all did a great job! Oh well, “thank you for your time!” It was worthwhile.

July 15, 2010 at 7:40 AM

TERMINATOR should/will win, if I could bring back one show it would be that one!

July 15, 2010 at 7:42 AM

How many years does Terminator:SCC have to be on the best of list before Fox starts realizing what a stupid thing they did.

July 15, 2010 at 2:19 PM

Terminator seems a no brainer for me personally!
Garret Dillahunt gave an amazing performance as Cromartie and then as John Henry.

July 15, 2010 at 2:23 PM

Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles (T:SCC). Have you watched it from the beginning? The whole 2 episodes are nothing like the films and is acknowledged by many as superior. Watch it and see for yourself guys – it gets very complicated, harrowing, family orientated, sad, & yes of course action. Not to be missed – believe me.

July 17, 2010 at 3:15 AM

I vote for LOST.

They might have called that an ending, but I don’t. I’ve never wished for resolution more for a show that ended.

July 17, 2010 at 3:28 PM

MOONLIGHT … MOONLIGHT … MOONLIGHT … MOONLIGHT … MOONLIGHT …
There is such a hugh fanbase waiting for the Moonlight Movie …
How could that series not be on your list ??????????

MOONLIGHT WAS NOT JUST A VAMPIRE SERIES IT WAS A ROMANTIC THRILLER ….
IT WAS THE ORIGINAL VAMP ROMANTIC THRILLER …BRING BACK MOONLIGHT IN A MOVIE WITH THE ORIGINAL CAST

July 17, 2010 at 4:43 PM

MOONLIGHT, Can’t beleive its not on the list. We so need answers to all those questions that should have been carried through to season 2.

July 18, 2010 at 11:38 AM

My mother was a massive Moonlight fan. She too talks about this massive fanbase. I think that, while the fanbase is incredibly dedicated, it was never that big. The ratings for the show were not good. As much as people pin O’Laughlin as a big part of Moonlight’s appeal, the ratings for his next show were even worse.

I think Hawaii 5-0 will finally be a breakout roll for him, but I think Serenity proved, with a lot more talent top to bottom, that a movie for a failed TV show isn’t always necessary.

July 18, 2010 at 10:02 AM

Moonlight should definitely have a conclusion. They left us and the cast hanging. CBS told everyone it was coming back for season two up until the night before they cancelled it. We never got a finished storyline. There was so many things left unanswered. If there is any justice in this world, WB will decide to revisit this one of a kind, People’s Choice Award and Saturn Award series. The fanbase for Moonlight is even larger than when it aired because of the marathons on SyFy, Chiller and now the CW. Does anyone that has the power to do anything monitor these sites, because if you are–get your contracts ready and contact the cast (all of whom said they would do more Moonlight) and get the ball rolling. Vampires are hot, they are everywhere and they are not going away.

July 18, 2010 at 12:23 PM

The comment from the last poster Ivy West about Moonlight not having a huge fanbase is untrue the President of the CW nework which is one of the networks other than Syfy and Chiller to rerun
Moonlight has said that they recieve letters and emails about Moonlight all the time. That is what prompted them to rerun
Moonlight with The Vanpire Diaries on Thursday Nights.

The CEO and Chief Executive Officer of Warner Bros. Studios
really likes the idea of a Moonlight Movie it’s the other executives we have to convince and I believe we will succeed. And also it’s Alex O’Loughlin not
O’Laughlin.

We the fans want see all the questions that left fans hanging
at the of Sonata answered. All of the actors have said they
would do it if asked. Warner Bros if you are seeing this please contact the orginal writers Trevor Munson and Ron Koslow as well as the orginal cast and bring Moonlight to the big screen it deserves a second chance.

July 18, 2010 at 11:17 PM

Moonlight was cancelled due to the writers strike and was never given a full chance. So many questions were left unanswered

July 19, 2010 at 3:58 AM

That’s true. The writers strike harmed both Moonlight and TSCC. The showrunners had a story for an entire season in mind and they had to cut it into pieces.
That and the several months break helped to kill new shows.
