Has Burn Notice come to an end? Sorta.

We have seen Michael try to find out who burned him for four seasons now, will he finally get the answer from "The List" or will he be thwarted once again?

- Season 4, Episode 17 & 18 - "Out of the Fire; Last Stand"

This season of Burn Notice came to an end in a dramatic two hour finale. So much happened in the episode, but I was most interested in the takeway theme, at least as I saw it. Good versus Bad. We know that Michael was a spy, he got burned, and he tried to get unburned. While trying to find out who had him burned, he maintained a strong morale compass. He took “clients” and helped them, while he traipsed through the spy world trying to find out who burned him. He may have crossed the legal line, but he carefully maintained his sense of right and wrong.

The path that Michael could have taken was seen through his former spy colleague, Larry. He didn’t care who stood in his way, he just wanted “the List” and the money it could get him. This finale was about Michael, the team — his family. If I didn’t know that the show was already renewed for two more seasons, I would have thought this was being set up as a potential series finale. And, I will admit I forgot about the renewal while watching. It was so convincing.

Regardless, thisĀ episode was an end. Michael’s car is gone. He told Fi that they had different paths to take. Jesse and Michael showed their respect for each other and recognized their common mission. Michael risked his life to protect his mother. Fi decided she would rather die with Michael than live without him. I really thought it might be over. I wasn’t sure how they would get out of this hot spot for the first time ever.

Thankfully, Sam came to the rescue with the cavalry — literally — and saved them all. And, Michael was taken into custody and questioned for a week. Was it all worth it? Is Michael really unburned? I used that as the post title for the last show, mostly as a joke, but has it really happened? I lean towards things not being what they seem, especially given that there are two more seasons. But, perhaps this is all part of Matt Nix’s plan.

Do you want Michael to be a spy again? Or, would that ruin the show?

Has the fourth season come to an end? Yes. Had Burn Notice come to an end? No way! As far as I know, Jeffrey Donovan was given a raise a while back, and a part of it was given to do at least eight seasons, and even up to 12 seasons at most!
