House literally jumped the shark

Let’s face it, even if you are a huge fan of House M.D., you’ve got to admit that this hasn’t been the best season of the quirky medical drama, and everyone is saying it. If you’re like me, you still sort of long for the old team and their dynamics, and you could definitely live without “Foreteen.” Sure, the House / Cuddy dynamics have been fun, and I’m glad Wilson and House are back together, but the character development of the new team is still floundering.

In fact, they’ve been accused of jumping the shark on several occasions: when they broke up the old team and focused so much on Thirteen, when Cuddy got her baby, and when there was a screaming match in the operating room.

One thing you can always count on, though, is a dose of humor from House. Whether the one-liners make it a particularly quotable episode, or the pranks break up the monotony of the case of the week, you probably won’t make it through an episode of House without at least cracking a smile or two. And something tells me the writers were having a little fun this week with their less-than-stellar reviews this season.

The opening scene of this week’s episode, “Here Kitty,” shows House playing with a Matchbox car and a toy shark. Using an elaborate ramp he build from hospital materials, he literally jumps the toy shark with the Matchbox car. C’mon, did you catch that? You cannot convince me that the writers weren’t making a little statement to the folks who think the writing has suffered this season.

I loved the reminder of how cleverly written House really is, and it makes it somehow easier to enjoy the good parts of House this season. So it seems the writers got the reaction they wanted from this viewer….

As you mentioned, it has been said before. The show is only able to stay fresh through character development; i.e.- House’s Head/Wilson’s Heart, a season many said jumped the shark and then delivered those two epic episodes.

House is the best show on TV right now for me. It can repeat themes sás long as it wants :-)

Yes it was a funny moment indeed. But if you watch the footage Cuddy catches the car inches before it’s about to jump the shark. Shark-jump averted!

The “jumping the shark” moment was priceless (I googled the term and “house md” to get here).

My parents told me when I was a kid that every medical show eventually has a Münchausen episode, and when they do, it’s a sign that they’ve run out of ideas. The term “jump the shark” wasn’t in popular use then, but the memory stuck with me.

When I saw the shark scene and realized Münchausen syndrome was a topic in the episode…wow.
