Grey’s Anatomy – Izzie sees dead people

ABC

ABC

(Season 5, Episode 8 – “These Ties That Bind”)

“I’m here for you, Izzie Stevens.” – Denny

Crap! Why does that damn Denny keep showing back up?! Izzie listened to the Indian’s advice, had Alex burn Denny’s sweater, and thinks she’s finally gotten rid of him, and then goes into her room to find him there … again!!! Not only is Izzie sick of him hanging around, I’m sick of him, too!

Denny keeps saying he’s there for Izzie, but are you, Denny? Really? Because the best thing you can do for Izzie right now is to go quietly into the etherworld and let Izzie live out the rest of her life. How is she supposed to do that with you hanging around all the time, asking her to touch you and stuff? It’s freaky! Especially since she’s finally found peace and romance with Alex — how is that supposed to play out with you luring her back into your weird ghostly world?!

Awesome story about the guy who manages to impale himself while getting mangled in a garbage truck. But yipes on waking up while the docs are trying to piece him back together. Hell with a capital H.

And why does Callie have to create legs for him from titanium collected throughout the hospital? I’m no doctor, but don’t they have fake legs already made in this day and age? It’s not like she’s MacGyver trying to piece someone together with duct tape and tube socks.

Nice to see Mary McDonnell as the new heart specialist, and good that they’re showing someone with Asberger’s in a high-level position. She out-blunted Cristina but good.

And speaking of bluntness, what is Major McBadass’s problem? Does he have no idea how to kiss a woman normally? Must he always grab them and kiss them with all the frenetic energy of a rabid hyena? That’s just awkward.

Also nice to see Melissa George. I know she’s been on Alias, In Treatment, and a bunch of other shows and movies, but I really liked her in Thieves with John Stamos. It lasted, like, one episode.

Other stuff:

  • Cristina gleeful on Hahn being gone – “The wicked witch is dead!” – then scheming to get her back after meeting Dr. Dixon.
  • Meredith having to translate Cristina’s language to Derek.
  • Interns performing surgery on each other, Meredith asking Lexie if she’s a secret emo cutter, and Sadie slicing her back so the others can stitch her up.
  • Alex suddenly getting a compassionate gene, burning Denny’s sweater for Izzie, and just being there for her, in general.
  • Callie going all hysterical after they lose the guy she built the legs for.
  • The Indian’s heart starting to beat on its own. Nice.

I’m looking forward to Callie/Sloan pairing. She has helped Sloan be a friend to a woman, while being compassionate to her being a “twice-bian.” And they actually have chemistry and would be a cool couple. Notice how after sleeping with Callie, Sloan really hasn’t slept with anyone else at the hospital…. I’m just saying, it may not be a coincidence on the part of the writers. Or, here’s hoping!

Lack of Jeffrey Dean Morgan on a weekly basis has created a huge void in my dream world. Welcome back, Denny, and JDM! I LIKE seeing dead people. He is so damned sexy it drives me nuts. Wheeee!

I’m not sure about Mary McConnell’s character at this point. Is it going to be an ABC thing to have an Asperger’s Syndrome character?

Hunt’s kiss – very hot. The man is not that good looking (sorry folks), but he has passion and something from inside that just bubbles up in those scenes. Very enjoyable to watch and I must say I’d be happy to be on the receiving end of one of those frenetic kisses!

OMG – the preview for next week looks awesome. Finally the show is getting interesting.
