ABC wants to have a go at Fables

Brett Love on December 9th, 2008 9:00 AM

The comics, they just keep getting bigger. After the recent successes of things like 300 and Iron Man, and with Watchmen set to take over the theaters next spring, it stands to reason that one of the networks might want to take another shot. Sure, we’ve seen it before, with varying degrees of success (Birds of Prey vs Smallville), but not quite like this. Despite racking up some 79 issues to date, I’m guessing that the average TV viewer is not that familiar with Fables. That’s too bad, because it is a very fun comic, and I’m sure it would make for a TV show that I would enjoy, but I’m not so optimistic that it will actually pan out.

In my Grey’s Anatomy review last week, I was lamenting the fact that Denny Duquette was still hanging around torturing Izzie and preventing her from moving on with her life. At this point, it’s hard to tell whether it’s truly his ghost or just something Izzie conjured up to unconsciously keep herself from moving forward. She seems like she wants to move on, but does she really?

Along those lines, though, I started thinking about all the dead guys that Jeffrey Dean Morgan has played. I’m starting to think there’s a clause in his contracts stipulating that he only play dead guys. Let’s think about it here:

Grey’s Anatomy. Of course, this is the big one at the moment, because how long has Denny been dead? And yet he continues to haunt Izzie, either by his own volition or by something she’s dreaming up. Either way, he’s still dead. Move on, Denny.

This week, my brain clacked about The Observer, Madonna the hypocrite, and so much more. See if you agree with my thoughts:

The Observer is a stroke of genius. Not only are viewers tuning into Fringe every week to catch a glimpse of him, they’re recording the show and playing it back to find him (note: he was in the German airport in this week’s episode). My son actually text’d me from school on Wednesday, because he and his buddies were talking about Fringe. Remember the line in this week’s episode, “Where does the gentleman live?” My son thinks The Observer is the gentleman, and he lives in Little Hill. If only we knew what or where Little Hill is. Some place deep in the earth’s core, perhaps?

The girls on Fox News are all cute, blonde and skinny. Why is this? I have some theories: 1) It’s in Bill O’Reilly’s contract; 2) Because the network is named Fox, all the women have to BE foxes; and 3) The girls actually come in plump, brunette models, but are given magic makeovers that turn them into skinny blondes (Criss Angel on staff, perhaps?).
