The Shield Money Train cash

As was always with The Shield’s Strike Team, they were a group of guys I hated to love. They were dirty cops, bending the law to their own purposes and outcomes, using their badge — their “shield” — as a means of protecting themselves from the scum on the street, and from being pinched by the very organizations they served. Yet, as the second season worked towards its finale, I found myself rooting for Vic, Shane, Lem, and Ronnie. I wanted to see them victorious.

The Shield’s second season was all about the Armenian mob’s “money train,” and the corrupt Strike Team’s plan and execution to reap in that big pile of blood-stained cash. Blood-stained not physically, but in the death that came both before, and after, it came into the team’s hands. By the time season two ended, I was more hooked onĀ The Shield than I’d ever been, or will be.

(Week of Nov. 29, 2008)

This week saw Vic Mackey being sorry, Dexter feeling something, and Sylar hating heroes. And by the way, Elle, he is a serial killer! Check out our favorite quotes this week, and add your own in the comments.

“I hate heroes.” – Sylar to Elle, after she tells the car rental guy he’s a serial killer who’s holding her hostage, Heroes

“That’s why you lost your money. God don’t like ugly” — Gus’ Dad to his Mom, Psych

(Season 7, Episode 13 – “Family Meeting” – Series Finale) The Shield - The Shield, Season 7 - Family Meeting

I’m still shaking from the scene in the bedroom. I don’t give a shit if you think that’s spoilery and you haven’t seen the episode. If you saw it, you know what I’m talking about. If you didn’t, well what are you waiting for?

I thought I knew what Shane was up to when he was at the store, buying the flowers, the water and the toy for Jackson. I just didn’t want to believe it. I still don’t want to believe that that’s how that chapter of this story ended.

(Season 7, Episode 12 – “Possible Kill Screen”)

It’s the final two episodes of one of my most beloved shows on television, The Shield. I thought it only fitting that I start out with a live-blog/chat tonight, where we fans can congregate, discuss and weep in our beers about the show’s conclusion.

Earlier tonight I live-blogged the episode. You can read the transcript below. Should I run another live-blog for the finale next week? Let me know in the comments.

Is Vic Mackey a recovering alcoholic?

Keith McDuffee on November 18th, 2008 4:00 PM

One of my buddies at TV Squad, Jonathan Toomey, wrote up an excellent piece about his experience getting to see the final two episodes of The Shield in a private screening a few weeks ago or so. Unfortunately, since I’m not in New York, I couldn’t make it. Thankfully Jon didn’t rub it in.

Jonathan didn’t go into any spoilers, but did leave one little tidbit that had me thinking:

“Without saying what, you’ll find out one thing about Vic in the penultimate episode … Something so basic that you’ll be amazed when you realize that you didn’t know it already.”

I’ve got a theory, but Jonathan will neither confirm nor deny it: Vic’s a recovering alcoholic or drug addict.

The Shield – Petty Cash

(Season 7, Episode 11)

Here we are, down to the final few episodes of the series. (The series! Crap!) This was the final episode sent out on screener disc to us press folks, while a bunch of lucky bastards got to head out to private screenings of the final two. If only I lived in NYC or LA.

Personally I liked that this episode didn’t end in a cliff-hangery way, since I would have had to wait months to catch up to find out what happens next. That’s not to say this wasn’t a fine addition to what’s leading to the series end (The series! Damn!)

I guess it all depends on how you look at them. Our Halloween-themed posts, that is. Are they tricks, designed to possibly fool you, like Jane’s Halloween headlines I’d like to see, or Jackie’s When good characters go vampire. What do you think — did House finally really get murdered? Did the cast of The Big Bang Theory go vamp when we weren’t looking?

Maybe you just need a treat this Halloween, like many of the fictional characters in Bob’s post, Halloween treats for some deserving characters. I mean, don’t we all deserve a trip to Tahiti as much as Sarah Connor? You may or may not want to visit some of the houses that Jason did in his post, Trick-or-treating in TV town. Jack Bauer isn’t the most festive guy…
