A bigger Heroes cast, Virtuality, and… Mars Blackman? – The Week In Clack
Jason is off this week. Apparently, the Wisconsin Towing Association is having their annual convention in Wisconsin Dells. And if we know one thing about Jason here at CliqueClack, it’s that he loves the tow trucks. It’s crazy. That didn’t stop the news from happening, though, so here’s a quick rundown of some of the interesting stories from the week just passed.
- There was more casting news for Heroes. Battlestar’s Rick Worthy (Simon) will be joining the show as Parkman’s new partner. Worthy is cool, but unfortunately, that means Matt isn’t dead, and Heroes is adding more characters to the cast. Did you not get the memo, Mr. Kring? Also interesting, Mo Ryan says there won’t be a Heroes panel at Comic-Con. Man, from the penthouse to getting your ass kicked by House.
- FOX released the schedule of fall premiere dates and they’ll be giving an early start to a few shows. Bones, Fringe, Glee, and Dollhouse will all get their feet wet before the flood of new programming makes our DVRs groan from the stress of keeping up. The CW also announced premiere dates. 9-10!
When Reaper Blew the Hatch

Yes, I know Reaper has been canceled (did you see all the CliqueClack team had to say about Reaper’s fate behind the scenes?) and instead of celebrating the moment when it became great, I should be sending socks to the head honchos at The CW or something, to try to get it renewed somehow. Well, I’m not an activist, and although I’ll miss Reaper, I’d much rather be grateful for the two seasons worth of fun that we got from the show then spend my time bemoaning its short life.
I liked Reaper from the get-go; I’ve always liked shows about the supernatural, especially when they have a sense of humor about them, and there’s no arguing this describes Reaper. From the crazy vessels (a Dirt Devil and a remote control monster truck!) and the antics of The Devil (played to perfection by Ray Wise) it was always an enjoyable romp.
The moment I knew this show was going to be gracing my TV every week, though, came at the very end of season one, episode five, “What About Blob,” when Sam’s dad tears out a page of Sam’s contract with The Devil and burns it in the fire. It was that exact action that Blew the Hatch for me.
Quotation Marks – This week we bring the funny

Here is the latest edition of the week in quotes. Fortunately for us all, we had some new TV this week to pull from. I also, for better or for worse, went a little crazy with the Virgin Diaries (Damn yous, wikiquote.org). Most of the quotes I pulled from the old episodes this week were quirky and funny, so I hope you enjoy!
“Loving Michael is like trench warfare.” – Maddie
“Human instincts can jeopardize a mission. Sometimes its better to let a guy bleed a while.” – Mike’s narration
Reaper’s fate: behind the scenes at CliqueClack TV

We may seem like a really fun team because our posts are, well … fun. You don’t know the half of it. As much fun as we have writing the posts, some of our best discussions take place behind the scenes, on our team email list. We might even be considered brainy and philosophical. Are you ready for your first peek behind the scenes at CliqueClack TV?
Jenny Weird … I mean Wade … started it all with her bizarre video about Reaper’s fate. She’s a little … off. Anyway, Brett didn’t know what he was getting into when he sent a Jenny Wade quote for our weekly quotation marks column:
BRETT: It’s not exactly from ‘TV’ but the pickings are slim at the moment, so here’s Jenny Wade on Reaper’s cancellation.
“You know who you should blame?… Find your friends that watched American Idol this season, instead of Reaper, and punch them in the face. And be like, Dude, it’s your fault.”
KEITH (stating the obvious): God those videos are excruciating to sit through.
Reaper “90%” likely to live on at Syfy

If you weren’t convinced that the renewal of Dollhouse for a second season was a sign of the apocalypse, now comes word via the Twitter account of one Jenny Wade (Nina) that Reaper is very likely going to live on … on Syfy.
Her first update came earlier today, which gave all Reaper fans a glimmer of hope:
will let u know what i know when i know it which will b any min now-but its lookin VERY happy 4Reaps! (could my agnt b n e slowr rite now?!)
Ratings Clack – The real power of CBS crimetime

We’ve talked about it before, but it’s worth bringing up again as we kick off the summer viewing season. The various CBS crime shows don’t get all the sexy press coverage that things like Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, or Heroes do, but they still manage to compete very well in new episodes. Where they really shine though, is in repeats.
This past week saw CBS as the most watched network, despite only having three hours of non-repeat programming. Even better, with only repeats, they were able to win the demo on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. If you really want to see the power of CBS crimetime, an NCIS repeat on USA was the highest rated scripted show on cable last week, trailing basketball and wrestling. Even better, NCIS was number 6 in the top 20 cable programs. Cable watchers do love their Gibbs. Read the rest of this entry »
Reaper season finale – The Devil And Sam Oliver

I hesitate to call this a series finale because the talk of a move to syndication is still out there. It remains a long shot, but let’s hold off calling it done until there is official word. That unknown fate of the show obviously factored into how this season finale played out. The dominoes were all lined up to wrap the whole thing up in a nice little bow, but it didn’t quite go down like that.
We did get to see the expected showdown between Sam and Jerry, but it lacked a certain finality. Doors were left open and the transition to a season three would be an easy one. Along the way, more good stuff with Ben, Nina, and Granny Gonzalez. And one last crazed rampage, complete with an exorcism, for Sock. It was a good way for Reaper to go out, season or series.
