Life on Mars

After all this time, after waiting patiently for episodes upon episodes, we finally get our series finale of Life on Mars. Alright, so it was only one season, but I felt like a series finale had to have some sort of build-up.

First of all, seriously … I had no idea. Don’t get me wrong; I’m pretty damn proud of myself and all and even treated myself to a cookie, because I had no spoilers at all to work with nor any early screeners and still called the show’s ending nearly spot-on. I know I’m not the only one, so the rest of you can go ahead and get yourselves a cookie too.

How will Life on Mars end?

Keith McDuffee on April 1st, 2009 1:02 PM

ABC’s Life on Mars ends its first and only season tonight, only giving us an hour’s worth of wrap-up to soak in. Will it be enough? Will we be satisfied? Do we care? I’m actually looking forward to it. I want to know what happens to Sam, what happens to the rest of the cast and what put Sam in this strange predicament in the first place.

So, let’s do a little poll here, below, for those few of you who still watch this show. What has caused Sam’s situation? I’ll list all of those that Sam wrote on the blackboard and mirror, along with a “something else” entry. Choose the top three most likely scenarios. I’d like to see how spot on or far off we all are once all is revealed.

castle2030409This week’s quotes are all about word play and animals– whether it’s their turds or their use as projectiles. The double meanings of Tang and dark atriums are all here for your Sunday enjoyment. These are some of our favorite quotes from the week, and as always, feel free to leave your own in the comments.

Castle

“Ya know, actually having to prove things, is really tedious.” – Castle

“The ’70s are back; they’re like the Highlander that just won’t die.” – Castle

Life on Mars Windy
Over a month ago, one of our commenters correctly called the Windy situation way before we saw it play out in last night’s episode. As you can see, it was a plausible enough scenario that I felt it worth posting about. The question I have, though, is would this have been revealed so soon if we weren’t heading into the series finale next week?

Life on Mars – Sam, meet Sam

Keith McDuffee on March 20th, 2009 10:00 AM

Sam meets SamAt this point in Life on Mars, I’m wondering if I’m growing impatient with episodes like this one, because I know there’s only two episodes left until the very end. That knowledge alone makes these last few episodes feel even more like unnecessary filler. This one was no different, up until the last couple of moments.

I always like seeing an actor having a chance to use their natural dialect rather than the one their character uses. Jason O’Mara had this chance, being Irish and all (and with the obvious late St. Patrick’s Day connection thrown in there). Then again, I’ve never heard him speak, so maybe the brogue used in this episode was more harsh than usual.

… and hates Marco White, apparently.

It was a strange week on television. The calendar keeps insisting we are in a sweeps period, but the networks are dropping repeats all over the schedule. Even Lost, which ABC promised would run uninterrupted, went the repeat route. There were still some big events. As usual, Idol dominated, but ABC made some noise of their own with the return of Dancing With The Stars, spinning the loss of Jewel and Nancy O’Dell into ratings gold by signing up jilted bachelorette Melissa Rycroft. At the other extreme we found NBC’s latest disaster, The Chopping Block. There were also interesting numbers, good and bad,  for Chuck, Heroes, Castle, Kath & Kim CSI: Miami, Lie To Me, Next Top Model, and Dollhouse. Read the rest of this entry »

breaking_badThis week was ridiculous when it came to quotes. Breaking Bad came back, and while it’s still the most depressing show in the world, it had some good quotes. Plus, we’ve got House, Big Bang Theory, and a great episode of The Office. These are our favorite quotes of the week, but if there are some that you loved, feel free to leave them in the comments.

Breaking Bad

Walter: “I’ve got a better idea.”
Jesse: “Thank god! All right, what is it, Mr. White? Lay it on me.”
Walter: “Beans.”
Jesse: “Beans?”
Walter: “Castor beans.”
Jesse: “So what are we going to do with them? Are we just going to grow a magic beanstalk? Huh? Climb it and escape?”
