TV on DVD for September 15th

With the new season upon us, season sets from the big shows are dropping all over the place. This week offers some great choices. Leading the pack is The Big Bang Theory. And if you like that, please do check out my pick of the week, The IT Crowd. Other comedy offerings include It’s Always Sunny, and the final season of My Name Is Earl. For the more medically inclined viewers, Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice have their latest seasons ready.
On the sci-fi side, we have the Doctor Who 2008 Christmas Special, and Sanctuary. The big shows are rounded out by Crash, CSI: Miami, Primeval, The Clone Wars, and Fear Itself. If nostalgia is your thing, also look for new sets from Bonanza, Fame, Dark Shadows, One Step Beyond, and Transformers. And that’s just for starters. The full list is after the jump. Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! – Season 3 DVD review

Oh, Tim and Eric. You assault my brain with such seizure-inducing aggression, I can’t sit through an episode without smelling some hair burning. It’s a good thing I now have the third season on DVD so I can do this at my own pace. And may I suggest that the best way to watch it is really late at night, in a black-hole of a room, with something alcoholic sitting by your side (be it a beer or a tipsy friend). This way, you can wake up several hours later on the couch, with a pouch of sequins inexplicably in your mouth, and a fistful of spaghetti that you don’t remember making, accompanied only by the DVD menu quietly droning through its loop on the screen. I mean, I’m assuming that’s what would happen, anyway. Not like it happened to me. Read the rest of this entry »
TV on DVD for August 18th

Things were a little slow on the DVD front last week, but business has certainly picked back up. The big shows are back with sets from Dexter, Greek, Eli Stone, Dirty Sexy Money, Gossip Girl, iCarly, and Sons of Anarchy. We also have some classic TV (Simon & Simon), some Discovery favorites (Man vs Wild, Ghost Adventures), and animation (Total Drama Island, The Simpsons, The Smurfs). It all makes for a pretty solid collection. My pick of the week, Simon & Simon. It’s Rick and A.J. man! Pictures, links, and the rest of the releases, after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
TV on DVD for August 11

After a few weeks in a row with big releases, things are slowing down a bit this week. None of the big network shows are represented. It looks like they all decided to gang up on your wallets next week. 90210 and Life With Derek are the most contemporary offerings, with my personal pick being the big Scooby-Doo double feature. Other offerings of possible interest include some lost episodes from The Super Friends, the women of questionable morals from Pulling, and the sassy Dixie Carter from Designing Women. All that, and more, after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
TV on DVD for July 14th – Leverage, The State

It’s another big week of DVD releases, with a little something for everyone. I’m sure many of you here are fans of TNT’s Leverage, which finally gets the season one DVD treatment, just in time. The week also sees a very overdue set for The State and the return of G.I. Joe. Still not working for ya? There’s also ER, Anthony Bourdain, Wire In The Blood, and the OG American Gladiators. If that’s not enough, perhaps I can interest you in Joe Schmo 2? Unfortunately for those of you just chomping at the bit to get your hands on SciFi’s Flash Gordon, that one’s a Canada only release. More info, links, and the rest of the releases, after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
TV on DVD – July 7th releases

After last week’s treasure trove of new releases, the pickings are a wee bit slimmer this time around. That’s not to say there isn’t some fun to be had. Any week that features Mystery Science Theater 3000, Doctor Who, the machinery of the moon missions, and Poirot can’t be all bad. Those are joined by some classic TV, in the form of Matlock, Murder She Wrote, Peanuts, and Petticoat Junction. Those of you looking to stay more current can watch out for Kath and Kim, Reno 911!, and Ruby. All things considered, still a solid week of releases, with Moon Machines making my short list. TV on DVD for June 30th
This is a huge, HUGE, week for TV on DVD. Why is that, you ask? Four words. Parker Lewis Can’t Lose. I can finally check that one off of the list of shows that really need to be on DVD. Even if you haven’t been waiting patiently for that classic, there is a host of other goodies available this week.
SciFi and HBO both offer two season sets. Showtime adds season two of The Nekkid Billie Piper Show to the mix. Animal Planet’s Jockeys hit the shelves. And, if you haven’t yet seen it by other means, run to grab series two of my favorite Brit-com, The IT Crowd. Links, and even more releases, after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
