Is it worth finishing AMC’s The Prisoner tonight? No.

I had high hopes for AMC’s reboot of The Prisoner. In hindsight, I guess it’s a bit silly to call this a “reboot” and not something else, since it only took up six hours of my life and didn’t attempt to keep the story going beyond that. I’m going to try to save a bunch of you from wasting any more hours on this mini-series, because it’s just not worth it.
AMC’s The Prisoner isn’t The Prisoner of yore
One of the reasons I decided to watch the original short-lived series, The Prisoner, was the news that AMC was producing this remake. It also didn’t hurt that the new series was planned from the start to last only six hours and had two stellar stars attached to it: James Caviezel and Ian McKellen. By the time I got through the original series, though, I wasn’t sure I cared about a remake/retelling/reboot of the series, because I just wasn’t into it at all.
After watching the first two hours of this series, having watched the original only served to tell me that I like this one much better and would have done just fine not having watched the original at all.

AMC’s The Prisoner reboot – CliqueClack giveaway

AMC’s remake/retelling/reboot (let’s call it a reboot) of The Prisoner series kicks off this coming Sunday night at 8 PM Eastern on AMC. Some of you who’ve followed this site may remember I did a Virgin Diary review of the original series a few months ago. Honestly, I didn’t get as wrapped up in the series as some people have (not NEARLY as much, that’s for sure), but I did find an appreciation for it in how it influenced other mainstream shows and pop culture, even today. I’m definitely curious how a reboot of the series will turn out and whether the ending will be as much of a WTF moment as the original was.
To mark this occasion, we’re giving away a few Prisoner goodies!
The Prisoner is free (and online)
A bunch of us here at the Clique have taken to watching classic TV shows for the first time, starting with season one. We’re calling it “The Virgin Diaries,” as we do mini-reviews of each episode as we go along. Right now we’re doing The Wire, Supernatural and Gossip Girl. I was feeling left out, so I’ve decided to take on The Prisoner, starting later this month.
Lucky for me, AMC has taken to putting all 17 episodes of the original series online, including some 1-minute recaps, all free-like! So, if you’re new to the series like I am — or even if you’ve caught the show before and want to watch it again — hop on over to their website, then come back and chime in on my reviews later. I can’t wait to see what all the fuss is about, especially the controversial finale (usually I hear a lot of “can someone tell me what the hell happened in the finale?!”)
