Psych

This is the time of year where other Psych fans like me say “awwwww no!” because we’ve come to the “fall finale” and have to wait for the show to return in January. Here are a few things I’ve liked about the show this season, all of which I’d really like to see more of:

More of Shawn’s dad … and his interactions with Shawn. I’ve always loved Corbin Bersen’s Henry Spencer, and it seems they brought him in much more this season than in the past. In fact, I believe we’ve gotten a flashback to the young Spencers to open every episode this season. Is it possible Henry will be back on the force — even just as a consultant — after this episode?

How I Met Your Mother Cast Looking into Coffin

Yesterday, I looked at the five new shows that I’m most looking forward to this season. It’s a pretty short list, unfortunately. Heck, I only had one on the “Honorable Mention” list. Thankfully, there’s quite a bit of good stuff returning to the network schedule this season. I could, however, come up with just as long of a list of stuff that I wish was coming back that’s not. I should, as Brett has been known to tell me, “shut up and quit my whining” (my words, not his).

First, a cheat. I know I said that this was about the upcoming TV season, but we cover Web Shows here on the ‘Clack, so I’m taking a (very appropriate) liberty. The third season of The Guild started this week (or last week, if you’re an Xbox Live Gold Member), and I can’t wait. I only found The Guild after Dr. Horrible introduced me to Felicia Day, but I’m glad that I did, as it’s one of the most consistently funny things out there on any medium. The addition of CliqueClack favorite (and my hero as a kid) Wil Wheaton to the cast is only going to ramp things up for the third installment. If you haven’t seen it, head to www.watchtheguild.com right away.

(Season 2, Episodes 1-3)

So they are really not rushing with this whole Carla storyline, are they? Talk about a slow burn. In the first three episodes of season 2, Michael gets out of the panel truck, but we find out basically nothing about who may or may not have burned him, except that Tricia Helfer may have had something to do with it. Burn Notice tries to make up for the lack of information with some sweet guest stars and an aspect of the Michael/Fiona relationship storyline that doesn’t completely annoy me, so despite the unanswered questions, I consider the first three episodes a win.

(Season 2, Episode 1 “Breaking and Entering”)

Season 2 starts off strong, not only with the dissolution of Fiona and Michael’s “relationship,” but with some pretty awesome guest stars. I know that most people were probably pretty excited to see Battlestar Gallactica’s Tricia Helfer as Carla, the mystery woman who may or may not have burned Michael. I however, was more psyched to see Patrick Fischler, the ultimate “Hey! It’s that guy!” who has most recently been seen on Southland and Lost.

Tonight’s big TV news is that the new season of Burn Notice is premiering on USA. However, if you still need to catch up on that show like I do, there are plenty of delightful reruns on TV tonight to keep you busy.

  • Miss the first season of True Blood? HBO2 is airing the first three episodes of season 1 starting at 8:00.
  • At 9:00, the Will Ferrell episode of Man Vs. Wild is airing on Discovery.
  • If you can’t get enough of Patrick Jane and The Mentalist, at 10:00, CBS is rerunning the episode where someone hypnotizes people into committing murder.
  • Also at 10, you can catch an episode of King of the Hill on The Cartoon Network, and follow it up with an episode of Ace of Cakes at 10:30 on The Food Network, in which Duff and the gang work on the cake for King of the Hill’s series finale.

This weeks presented us with another one of those Mentalist episodes where they fooled you by doing the obvious thing. You get your mind all set to figure it out another way, because you think they won’t go the route of making one of the possible victims the culprit, but then they do and it kinda screws you up. And you slap your head and say I knew it all the time!

Because you did … sort of.

thementalistbloodshotI’ve started this post three different times. I kept changing what I wanted to write about as the latest episode of The Mentalist (”Bloodshot”) went on.

First I was going to talk about how predictable it was that Jane was going to become blind at some point. It’s usually one of the things a TV hero has to go through, one of the plot devices you see in everything from M*A*S*H (Hawkeye) to Mannix (Mannix). It happened to Harry on Night Court and Alexander Scott on I Spy. Even Lassie was blind in an episode if I remember correctly. I’m sure at some point we’ll see Jane unable to walk, a relative come out of the woodwork accused of murder, and an episode where Jane and one of the other CBI members are held hostage during a bank robbery.

Sure, I could talk about how obvious the identity of the killer was on last night’s episode of The Mentalist. But I’d rather talk about lesbians.

One of the plot twists in the episode was the fact that a couple of the Real Housewives of Sacramento County were lesbians. Rigsby and Cho caught them in bed together at a hotel. Of course, this scene probably would have had a little more effect on viewers if it hadn’t been shown 300 times during the past week in promos for the show. I guess this is one of those moments when it pays not to watch a lot of television. That could have been a cool twist out of nowhere, but if you saw the promos, you saw it coming. I wanted to see more of these women and learn more about the whole lesbian thing. I always want to know more about the lesbian thing. This show needs more lesbians.
