booth-and-parkerThis week’s episode of Bones was awesome. I was actually a little teary-eyed by the end. Considering that I had no doubt during the entire episode that Booth would be saved from The Gravedigger, the fact that it moved me was no small feat. I have been a little frustrated with some of the other shows I am watching this week, so I’d like to give Bones a round of applause for keeping things fresh.

At first, when Teddy Parker (Noel Fisher) showed up as a ghost, I was skeptical. I thought, “Why are they doing this? Why are they giving Booth a hallucination? Is it to help Booth get out of here? Is it somehow to give closure to Booth?” I wasn’t sure it was a good idea, but Parker quickly won me over. And then another reason for his presence occurred to me. Read the rest of this entry »

Bones – Circus laugh or circus gaffe?

Jen Creer on January 26th, 2009 7:53 PM

bones-circus-2What did you think of “Double Trouble in the Panhandle,” the first of the two episodes of Bones to air last week? It was certainly one of the riskiest episodes we’ve seen from our dynamic duo of Brennan and Booth. The risk? Their unadulterated glee at getting to go under cover as circus performers to catch the murderer of two conjoined twins.

The show completely threw itself into this assignment, from the elaborately painted trailer used in their disguise to the brilliant Russian costumes they don for their act. The episode was no-holds barred, from the phony accents to the knife-throwing itself.

So, what did you think? Was it too much? Was it slightly embarrassing to watch? Or was it brilliant and funny, thrilling in its very audacity? I really think that the show falls into one of the extremes. I don’t think there was a middle ground for this one. Read the rest of this entry »

Bones and Booth kiss

Please don’t get me wrong. I know that the title of this post my make it seem like I don’t like the show Bones, or perhaps that I don’t like Booth and Brennan. In fact, I am a big fan of the show. I was so upset by Zack’s guilt at the end of last season that it was hard for me to start watching again this Fall. Yet, this season has proven to be a lot of fun to watch, as have all of the other seasons.

But one of the things I’ve noticed this season is that the writers are trying to push Booth and Brennan together with constant yammering about relationships. The push is harder this season than it has been in the past. Even the infamous holiday kiss from “Santa in the Slush” pales compared to this season’s attempts to force the dynamic duo into a romantic relationship. Read the rest of this entry »

(Season 4, Episode 9: “The Con Man in the Meth Lab”)

Is it just me, or are all of the episodes this season building, logically of course, toward Bones and Booth getting together? I mean, I know it’s inevitable, but the show seems to be deliberately removing obstacles and moving us in that direction.

Take last night’s episode for example: The case itself sort of sucked. It was boring, and they didn’t really put any time into it. Not really. Last night’s episode was about Booth and whether or not he is an alpha male. We also find out some key secrets from his past that explain why he behaves the way he does. Bones – The Skull in the Skeleton

Fox

(Season 4, Episode 7)

Temperance and Booth continue to creak toward each other at a snail’s pace. It’s a good thing we have Angela’s sex life to titillate us in the meantime (and when are they going to give Cam another lover? Poor Hodgins, too!). Maybe I need to include Sweets and Wick (the reversal of their names absolutely kills me — hilarious!) in the titillation category as well, though it didn’t really do anything for me personally….

Between House and Bones, we’ve had a lot of girl-on-girl action lately. Here’s a question: Why not have Temperance have a female lover? She always talks about being open-minded sexually. In fact, did anyone else pick up on a little tension between Temperance and Angela in this episode, while they were discussing Angela’s past with Roxy? It would be interesting to see that relationship explored a bit more. However, it’s my theory that certain female lead characters can’t get away with sexual experimentation in the same way that supporting characters can. What do you think? Do you think the network would ever let Temperance have a female lover? Because unless I am forgetting something key, Brennan has had male lovers on the show, to date. Read the rest of this entry »
