Ratings Clack – Lost premiere is bigger than ever!

(1/12 – 1/18)
No. Not really. In fact, it was the lowest rated premiere the show has ever had. Somehow though, ABC managed to massage those numbers so much that they felt ok producing a promo that called it bigger than ever. It’s lipstick on a pig. DVR, streaming, illicit downloads, no matter what spin you want to put on it, Lost is way down from its once lofty numbers, and it has virtually no chance of ever regaining those lost viewers. It’s not all bad though, because what is left of the audience is still pretty substantial. We’ll get to those numbers, find out what happened in the latest round of the Grey’s / CSI battle, and see if those 30 Rock numbers managed to drop again, after the jump. Ratings Clack – Idol storms back, Patrick Jane doesn’t care

(1/12 – 1/18)
Yes, of course, the big story this week was the return of American Idol. It didn’t disappoint, from a numbers perspective. Both installments easily won their nights. We all expected that though, right? The more interesting bit of the Idol story was the effect the show had, or didn’t have, on the ratings of other shows. While J.D. and the kids over at Scrubs were probably shaking their fists in the general direction of Idol, the CBI, and their pals at NCIS hardly even noticed. In addition to all the Idol shenanigans, CSI said goodbye to Grissom. Read the rest of this entry »
Reality TV Watchers Anonymous – Guest Clack
Julia Hass is back Guest-clacking for us again, after she kicked some ass with her post, the 15 most kickass women on television.
Hi, my name is Julia Hass, and I have an addiction to bad reality television.
It started, in a truly Freudian manner, with my mother. She got me in my prime adolescent years hooked first to The Bachelor and then Beauty and the Geek, using them as a bonding mechanism and conversation starter, which is the kind of parenting through television I think more people should get behind. I learned a lot of things from those formative television-watching hours, but the most important thing I learned was that no matter how badly complicated my life was, it was never as truly, completely ridiculous as the lives of people on television. It was a thrilling and wonderful realization. I was hooked.
Ratings Clack – The week before Idol offers a couple surprises

(1/05 – 1/11)
TV for 2009 started spinning up the turbos last week, and will be at full boost when Idol comes online this week. That will, of course, send numbers in all kinds of crazy directions. It should anyway, unless I got the animal sacrifices and the Gregorian chanting right this time. Once I find the formula, Idol will be finished! But we’ll talk about Randy, Simon, Paula, and that new chick, next week. This week, there were a few surprises on the schedule. Superstars Of Dance and True Beauty debuted to better numbers than I expected. Flashpoint looks to be a perfect fit for the CBS Friday. And, apparently, Old Christine fans are g0ing to watch anyway, new or repeat. Read the rest of this entry »
Am I the only one who misses Medium?
I must not be, because the show has been enough of a hit to run for four seasons. So why has NBC been treating this fan favorite like dirt? I’ll give you a clue: they’re either douchebags, or idiots, or both.
First, they push Medium back to a midseason premiere in favor of Christian Slater’s ill-fated spy drama, My Own Worst Enemy. Well, that obviously backfired, and MOWE is now toast. So why is Medium still only coming back to its loyal viewers on February 2? Because it would get in the way of two hours of Superstars of Dancing, of course!
Apparently the bigwigs over at NBC are trying to compete with FOX’s American Idol this winter for the title of Most Useless Filler Squeezed into a Reality Competition. At least that’s my best guess as to why they would need not two, or three, but four hours on Sunday and Monday nights of what I can only imagine is Dancing With The Stars, sans the stars.
Ratings Clack – Eli Stone vs Aqui y Ahora? It’s a draw.

(12/30 – 1/04)
Christmas and New Years are now in the rearview, so we can finally start getting back to something that passes for a regular television viewing schedule. If someone could just make this damn snow stop, I’d be a happy guy. Before we rejoin some of our favorite shows for the beginning of 2009 though, we’ve got one more really slow week to talk about. The hits were few and far between, but there were a couple interesting bits hidden away in there.
