Evil female alien commanders make for memorable TV

Now that I’m really getting into V, I thought I’d honor the Visitors’ leader, Anna (played with reptilian grace by Morena Baccarin), by putting together a list of TV’s memorable alien villainesses, whose insidious forces have infiltrated, assimilated, assaulted, insulted, and generally picked on the human race. TV on DVD for September 22nd

There are so many shows premiering this week that no work is getting done down at the DVD factory. At least, that’s my theory. How else do you explain the shortened list of releases this week? Despite that, there are still a few big ones to take notice of: 30 Rock, Castle, The Mentalist, Terminator, Ghost Whisperer, Ugly Betty, and SVU are representing the big networks. From cable, we have Brotherhood, SpongeBob, and 6Teen. And the week is rounded out by some classics, including Star Trek, Taxi, and Friday The 13th: The Series. The full list is after the jump. Diary of a Prisoner Virgin – The Prisoner thinks it’s Star Trek (or the other way around)

(Episode 14 – “Living in Harmony” & Episode 15 – “The Girl Who Was Death”)
Remember in my last Prisoner diary post, when I noted how things started to switch gears? It turns out I was right, as things still haven’t switched back to the way they used to be. Rather than episode after episode of watching Number Six in the same ol’ Village, going about his business (or at least making it appear so), the locales have changed and the methods the new Number Twos are using to attempt to extract information from Six are growing more absurd … or are they ingenious?
As with all of the Virgin Diaries, I’m not going to get into the exact details and plots of each episode — if you’re reading these, chances are you’ve seen the series (or at least these episodes) already. If you haven’t, then shame on you, you spoiler-peeking fool!
What’s better for Wesley Crusher: Assrape or Snirkles?

I don’t normally catch Robot Chicken, but since it was airing a new episode last night and I was still riding the high from their awesome Star Wars: Episode II DVD (giveaway in progress until this Wednesday!), I flipped it on. Then there was a skit that I was really, really shocked I’d never heard of before, especially from Wil Wheaton via Twitter. In this skit, the writing for the third season of Star Trek: The Next Generation is about to begin, and they acknowledge the fan backlash over Wil’s character, Wesley Crusher. How to “fix” the problem? Well, you just go and watch and find out.
Dancing with the Stars – Cowboy demise
So … we’ll get the “highlight” of the evening out of the way right off the bat: The world’s largest snake sacrificed itself so Samantha Harris had something to wear last evening. Thankfully, we weren’t witness to any of the carnage that must have come about in the fashioning of said dress. Whew.
Look, I don’t know much about dancing. When you put the words “Gene” and “dancing” in the same sentence, I have different ideas then you probably do. Gene Kelly probably pops into your mind, doesn’t he? Me? Well, mine wanders off to Gene Gene, The Dancing Machine from The Gong Show (the terrific Gene Patton). ‘Cause that’s who I gravitate toward.
Saturday Night Live – Justin Timberlake; Ciara
Justin Timberlake has earned himself quite the reputation through hosting Saturday Night Live. He’s actually carved out a bit of an acting career, and I think most of it started from his time on SNL. I am a bit ambivalent toward his hosting, though. I think he really sells everything, obviously has fun, and is not afraid to poke fun at himself; these are all great things. At the same time, however, I think he sometimes crosses the line between “selling it” and “hamming it up” and becomes self indulgent. Maybe it’s just me and my bad attitude, as I know tons of people love it when he hosts SNL.
After watching the episode, however, I thought it was a good installment. There were guest appearances galore, and a couple sketches that hit it out of the park, which is rare for SNL. Let’s break it down….
Set phasers on “Eh?” – Star Trek movie review
Unless you have been living on Rigel 3, you are no doubt aware there is a new Star Trek movie in theaters today, directed by every geek’s favorite, J.J. Abrams. As a fan of all things Trek, I was really looking forward to this movie. I didn’t care that it featured an all new cast, and was finally going to be the “How Kirk & Spock met” storyline that has been shopped around for a while now. I just needed my Trek fix.
I was disappointed. Maybe my expectations were too high.
