How can you not be stoked that USA’s Psych is back? I was so excited, I completely forgot one of the most quotable shows on television last week! Just because I love you guys, I mixed in last week’s quotes in with this.

What were your favorite quotes this week? Mine was from our very own Bob Degon, announcing some suspect news to the CliqueClack team:

“They’re remaking BSG… again… Oy.”

Psych

“Note to self: be rich one day.” — Shawn

“He’s allergic to rich, white people.” — Shawn, addressing Gus’ coughing to family of wealthy murder victim

“I hope you have a plan of how we’re gonna find this crashed plane. And I hope that plan doesn’t end up having us being eaten by a bear.” — Gus
“Don’t worry Gus. I have a secret weapon” — Shawn
“A larger bear-eating bear?” — Gus

Battlestar Galactica hull cracks

I think I need to stop watching Dollhouse before I watch Battlestar Galactica. I get pissed off at having to hear baby Jesus cry at what Fox made Joss do to what just had to be a better show than it is, so then I carry that anger into watching this. So, my apologies if I tend to get ornery at this episode.

That said, I was really getting sick of watching scene after scene of Bill Adama in the dark, watching the ship getting Cylon mud painted on it. Many big-time fans of the show will definitely find these scenes touching and symbolic, as we’re watching Bill nurse his ailing baby while Tigh and Caprica watch after their own. I just found it overkill and obvious filler for an episode that I hoped to be a lot more fulfilling.

lee and starbuck akimbo

While I’ve loved the battle upon the Galactica these past few episodes, I’m glad it’s over. Who doesn’t love Starbuck when she’s in her element? And standing by Lee while she’s all akimbo with the pistols? Frakking awesome. And Lampkin! But it needed to be over, and I’m happy with the outcome. Like Gaeta said, regarding his leg (great line and scene): “It stopped.”

Fortunately for me, I didn’t make some sort of crazy bet last week, when I said Saul Tigh would jump on the grenade. As this week went on — and the more I thought about it — I wanted to take that back. But, hey, Saul’s alive! We can all go back to being happy now. What grenade? Right?

BSG

Last week I posted my guess that, based on the promos for this week’s episode, Col. Tigh would jump on the grenade we saw thrown into the barricaded room. Many commenters mentioned that it was likely a “flashbang” (or stun grenade) that we saw, which makes perfect sense. What I didn’t realize at the time was that a flashbang wasn’t necessarily deadly, should someone jump on it. What’s more, there’d be no need for Saul to jump on it unless he thought it threatened Adama’s life, anyway.

77% of voters in my poll say the grenade “did nothing” to Tigh nor Adama, which I guess is the best answer if you’re thinking it’s not going to kill anyone.

Saul Tigh jumps on the grenade

bsg grenade

Right about now, anyone who’s seeing this post is thinking “God damn it! What’s with the spoilers?!” First of all, if you haven’t seen last night’s episode yet, then you have nothing to fear … yet. If you read further, though, you may be spoiled. You have been warned, so say we all … and all that.

While the episode was finally an action-packed one, the one thing that stuck in my mind came at its end. Adama and Tigh were holding their ground, barricaded within the stealth launch bay and having just sent Roslin, Starbuck and Tyrol off to, presumably, the Base Star. Then, just as Adama and Tigh had their closest moment since having to deal with the aftermath of the final Cylons revelation, the advancing soldiers toss a grenade into the small room. It goes off, and we’re left with that familiar “to be continued.” Without seeing next week’s promo, I’m pretty sure Tigh took one for the team.

BSG last supper

Much to the happiness of BSG geeks like me, Ron D. Moore has been doing timely podcasts for the remaining episodes of the season, or at least he has for the past two. It’s always interesting to hear what the man has to say on what he was thinking with certain scenes, and the other directions he’d previously considered that got dropped.

Listening to the podcasts is a bit time consuming and calls for free time you might not have, so I’ll do my best to point out some of the highlights for me. Note these are from the first two podcasts, meshed together:

Battlestar Galactica – Frak Earth

Keith McDuffee on January 16th, 2009 11:32 PM

BSG Frak Earth

(Season 4, Episode 11 – “Sometimes a Great Notion” Battlestar Galactica - Battlestar Galactica, Season 4 - Sometimes a Great Notion – Mid-Season Premiere)

Beginning population: 39,651

So, was it everything you were hoping it would be? Still trying to wrap your brain around what you just saw? You’re definitely not alone.

One of the big “woah!” moments of this episode was the reveal that the planet was last inhabited by Cylons. A lot of people already came up with this as one of several probable revelations about the planet; I know I wasn’t all that surprised. What was somewhat surprising was that the planet was nuked 2,000 years ago … and Cylons, including skin jobs, existed. I think we’re all a lot more shocked at that news than the Colonials. That would be like us … I dunno, finding a 2,000 year-old computer on the moon. What a mind frak!
