Rescue Me's Callie ThorneHighlights of the Week

  • Rescue Me totally redeemed itself in this, its longest season ever. After 22 solid episodes, where we saw the Gavin clan fall completely off the wagon. Is Teddy’s wife a goner? And what about Janet/Sheila/Tommy? That can’t end well. (Tue. 10pm, FX)
  • With the fall season fast approaching, FOX is hedging their bets that So You Think You Can Dance will perform as well there as it does in the summer. To get you pumped up, this week they’re offering “The Best Of…” (Wed. 8pm, FOX)
  • Season 3/Chapter 5 of Greek kicks off this week by bringing us “The Day After.” Casey’s rejected, Max is gone and what’s Rusty to do? (Mon. 9pm, ABC Family)
  • HBO’s new comedy, Bored to Death, actually looks pretty good. It’s about a writer who becomes a P.I. and stars Jason Schwartzman, Ted Danson and Zach Galifianakis. The cast is enough for me to check it out. This week, they’re sneak-peeking it with a “Making Of” special. (Tue. 10:45pm)
  • The story of Ruby’s weight-loss journey has inspired millions. This week, we say goodbye to her second season as she speaks at a summer weight-loss camp for kids. Her finale is followed by Too Fat for 15, which looks at a kid struggling at 450 pounds. (Sun. 8pm, Style)

After last week’s treasure trove of new releases, the pickings are a wee bit slimmer this time around. That’s not to say there isn’t some fun to be had. Any week that features Mystery Science Theater 3000, Doctor Who, the machinery of the moon missions, and Poirot can’t be all bad. Those are joined by some classic TV, in the form of Matlock, Murder She Wrote, Peanuts, and Petticoat Junction. Those of you looking to stay more current can watch out for Kath and Kim, Reno 911!, and Ruby. All things considered, still a solid week of releases, with Moon Machines making my short list. Alright, I’m starting to get a little antsy with all of these stand alone episodes of Supernatural, but I’m trying to be okay with it. I have faith there’s going to be a big payoff when we finally get around to it. I just think it would have been alright to have all these episodes interspersed throughout the story arc, too. That way we wouldn’t all be going nutso over the fact that all the seals are being broken, and we’re not seeing any of it. Although it is doing a good job of adding to the tension of the show.

  • Tonight, learn the true story of how a nuclear facility was almost robbed of weapons grade uranium straight from the mouth of the man who thwarted the attempt and nearly died in the effort on CBS’s 60 Minutes.
  • NBC, meanwhile, preps you for tonight’s NFL match-up with Football Night in America. But most of us will be watching the 2008 American Music Awards Red Carpet Live! special on ABC, won’t we?
  • FOX throws up an hour of King of the Hill repeats, first offering the recent installment where Bobby is treated like he’s “special,” following with the residents of Arlen fighting the construction of a “McMansion.”
  • The CW is scrapping that whole failed Sunday night lineup plan, but tonight you can catch one last week of reruns of those shows you didn’t watch the first time around. Next week the new Sunday night is anchored around a major movie, and features repeats of the first seasons of Everybody Hates Chris, The Game, The Drew Carey Show and Jericho, surprisingly enough.
