(Season 17, Episode 14 – “Say Goodbye to Gabon” – Season Finale)

I’ll tell you here that things progressed about as you would have expected from last week’s elimination of Crystal … for awhile. But then, as almost always seems to happen with well orchestrated plans, someone comes along and wins an Immunity Challenge and screws it up. All in all, though, this was a satisfying ending to what turned out to be a great season of Survivor.

The follow-up Reunion show reaffirmed that Corrine is one of the most horrible people I’ve ever seen on television, made moreso by the fact that she seems to relish her nastiness. I suspect that just as Jeff can’t stand Jonny Fairplay, he doesn’t care for Corrine anymore. Perhaps she made for good television, though not as much fun as Randy, but she isn’t good people. And you could tell she was trying to parlay her “bad girl” image into further money.

Now, let’s get after this pesky jump so we can talk properly.

(Season 17, Episode 10 – “Nothing Tastes Better Than Five Hundred Dollars”)

Who knew that after seventeen seasons, Survivor would still be able to be this entertaining? I won’t spoil anything before the jump, which means I won’t say much before the jump. That’s mainly because all the fun to be had in this episode revolved around Tribal Council.

I will go ahead and say here that tonight featured the “Survivor Auction,” and Randy reaffirmed to everyone that he is one of the most immature and childish people to ever play the game. Every second that Randy’s cockiness and babyish chatter filled up my screen this season I had two thoughts. Either this guy is going to somehow win this whole thing or he needs to go tonight! And coming into tonight, for nine episodes straight he didn’t go home. Maybe he’ll win the whole thing?

(Season 17, Episode 9)

Well, well, well. Things just keep going in unexpected ways this season on Survivor don’t they? It’s made for an interesting season. Coming into tonight’s episode, Susie keeps on surprising me by finding ways to stick around, while Bob just surprises me by being way cooler than you’d think a guy with a bowtie buff would be. And then there’s sweet, emotional Sugar.

I still can’t decide if she’s a savvy player playing a role for the others, or if she really is that naive and seemingly simplistic. Considering she has a ten-plus year acting resume as Jessica Kiper on IMDb, I’m going to go with the former. Here we are Top 10 and she’s still in this thing, and with the Hidden Immunity Idol intact. Hell, people know she has it and here she is. If that’s not good gameplay, then Randy should win the humanitarian of the year award … and share it with Corinne!
