The only current shows releasing sets this week are Numb3rs and Top Chef, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to see down at your local DVD Hut. Topping the list for me, Dan Freaking Tanna. Yes, finally, we can all watch Vega$ any time we want. If classic P.I. isn’t your style, there are also a number of collections that are worth a look, such as complete sets from Homicide, Black Adder, Fawlty Towers, It’s Garry Shandling’s Show, and Plastic Man. Other highlights include The L Word, Hawaii Five-O, and Peanuts. The complete list is after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

TV on DVD – July 7th releases

Brett Love on July 7th, 2009 9:00 AM

After last week’s treasure trove of new releases, the pickings are a wee bit slimmer this time around. That’s not to say there isn’t some fun to be had. Any week that features Mystery Science Theater 3000, Doctor Who, the machinery of the moon missions, and Poirot can’t be all bad. Those are joined by some classic TV, in the form of Matlock, Murder She Wrote, Peanuts, and Petticoat Junction. Those of you looking to stay more current can watch out for Kath and Kim, Reno 911!, and Ruby. All things considered, still a solid week of releases, with Moon Machines making my short list. Seven really unlucky TV characters

Keith McDuffee on February 13th, 2009 1:00 PM

wile e. coyoteAs you know, tomorrow’s Valentine’s Day. What’s that? You forgot? Ho boy, you’re gonna have some ’splaining to do. Well, if you have someone to ’splain to, that is. Now, I could go ahead and make a cutesy list of the best ’ships on TV or the ten kinds of chocolate I’d eat off Sienna Miller’s ass, but today is Friday the 13th, and I thought it fitting to honor the truly unlucky people who’ve graced our TVs all these years. And what better number than a lucky seven of them?

Wile E. CoyoteLooney Tunes
It’s not often Mr. Coyote would have a lucky streak when it came to desperately hunting down his meal, a.k.a. Accelleratti Incredibus, a.k.a. Tastyus Supersonicus, a.k.a. the Road Runner. Contrary to what most people think, the Road Runner was not Wile E.’s most feared an dangerous enemy. No, his greatest enemy was something most of us rarely ever have the chance to escape: gravity.

(Season 3, Episode 10 – “Christmas Joy”) Psych - Psych, Season 3 - Christmas Joy

It’s that time of year. Time to be thankful, and be rewarded with a fresh new installment from the fine folks down at Psych HQ. Truth be told, I’m never going to like the whole ’split season’ thing, and I’d prefer that all the NBC/Universal channels just knock it off.

That said, with Stargate Atlantis and Sanctuary making way for Mork & Mindy on Sci Fi this week (WTF?!), it was nice to surf on over to USA and find Shawn and Gus taking on a new case. And it wasn’t just any case, it was murder (In your head that murder bit should sound like Max from Hart To Hart).

For me, one of the best parts of Halloween is The Simpsons‘ “Treehouse of Horror” episode. Unfortunately in recent years, the baseball World Series has delayed the annual episode until after the holiday. This year is no exception, with the “Treehouse of Horror (XIX!?!)” airing on November 2nd. I, however, got my hands on a screener and I’m here to give you the low-down.

So how does this year hold up? It has some stiff competition from some truly classic Simpsons episodes. Who can forget the spoof of The Shining, or Mr. Burns as Dracula? After 19 years of doing the Halloween episode, with three short sketches per episode, it’s hard to believe that the writers keep finding material to spoof, but somehow they do. So … what was it this year? Come find out….
