When I heard about Pushing Daisies before the start of last season, I was really excited. There was a ton of good buzz about it and it sounded like the type of show that I really love. It sounded quirky, smart, character driven, and all the early reviews were comparing it to a Tim Burton film (and I am a big Tim Burton fan). As it got closer to premiering, my excitement only built as more and more positive things were being said by nearly every critic.

Then something funny happened. I watched the first episode, my hopes high, and… I hated it. I don’t know if my expectations were too high, but it just didn’t connect with me. I thought it was much closer to Moulin Rouge (which I hated) than any Tim Burton film. It was quirky, but not in a good way. I was left overwhelmed by the orgy of color and visuals. People love this aspect of the show; I find it garish. The fast paced dialogue left me turned off, and frankly, I found Chuck to be really annoying. I gave it another chance, but when Olive broke into song in the second episode for no apparent reason, the show lost me for good.

So… If you have read the title of this post, you are probably wondering why I don’t want it canceled. Come find out….
