sight_mary_schiffI don’t know if this is a record, but Law & Order: Criminal Intent and In Plain Sight featured four alumni of The West Wing on Sunday night. Criminal Intent had one former cast member while In Plain Sight had a total of three.

Guest starring on CI was Janel Moloney, who played Donna Moss on West Wing. Moloney portrayed the wife of a religious official part of the murder investigation conducted by detectives Goren and Eames. I nodded off during the last few minutes of the episode so I’m not sure if she was the killer. And, please don’t reveal if she was part of the murder or not. Unless, of course, you want the anti-spoiler fans to come to your house with torches.

I’m going to confess something to you. The original title of this post was going to be “Neela says good-bye, and not a moment too soon.”  Let’s face it, Dr. Neela Rasgotra has been a pain in the ass over the last few seasons, frustrating us with her indecision in both career and relationship. She’s been mean to some, indifferent to others, and led plenty of County General doctors to believe that she had eyes only for them. She’s been particularly tough to handle over the last few weeks as she constantly doubted herself while toying with the feelings of Simon Brenner.

With all of that hanging over her head I wasn’t going to cut her any slack at her teary-eyed departure. However, she made some moves on her last day at County that permitted her a little more respect as she embarked on her new life. The biggest was reuniting with a dear, old  friend.

Can I share something with you in confidence? Just you and me and the (hopefully) millions of other readers of this site? I can? That’s just great! Come in a bit closer so I can whisper it to you.

I’m actually looking forward to the end of ER five episodes from now. And it’s not because the show has run its course, or the stories and characters are no longer interesting. I want it to end so we can stop Neela’s whining! Oh, it feels so good to tell someone else about that. Now, if you come a bit closer I can tell you about those unusual growths in my nanoo-nanoo region.

liz_cordayOne of the items I didn’t have a chance to mention in this week’s ER review was the return of Alex Kingston as Dr. Elizabeth Corday.  Though she didn’t have a big part in the episode, Corday seemed to play an integral part to Neela’s dream state.

Now Chief of Trauma Surgery at Dartmouth University’s hospital, Corday was in Chicago on a recruiting drive. Along the way she met up with Neela, who was working on some interviews to see what else was outside the under-funded and over-worked County General. At least, Neela was interviewing in her dreams. If you aren’t sure what I’m talking about read this week’s review first before continuing.

(Season 15, Episode 12 – “Dream Runner”)

As regular readers of my ER reviews on CliqueClack know, I normally list the five or six plot points of the week’s episode. This time, that’s not going to happen. Oh, it’s not because there was nothing going on this episode — trust me, there was plenty going on this episode. It’s more the fact that the format of this week’s installment was, uh, well …

It was strange. Good strange or bad strange, I haven’t decided yet. It was entertaining in my opinion and it did keep me interested throughout, but I had a hard time getting my head into it all. Maybe you had the same problem as I did. Let’s take the journey together, shall we?

(Season 15, Episode 10 – “Let It Snow”)

Christmas is an unusual time for ER. Instead of piling on the doom and gloom that is the normal status quo of County General, the annual holiday episode tends to give the viewer a sense of hope and good cheer. Usually there is a baby involved, or a patient who gets a special gift, or a staff member gets a bit of the Xmas spirit. And, without fail, there is a moment where you just happen to tear up.

With this being the very last Christmas episode of ER, I didn’t expect anything different than the norm. There was a baby involved, a patient did get a special gift, and I teared up at the very end of the episode. Overall, a win for this long-running series. So, let’s take a look at the final holiday episode of ER.

(Season 15, Episode 8 – “Age of Innocence”)

Yeah, I knew it was too good to be true. Over the last few weeks I’ve been touting the change that Simon Brenner has gone through this season, turning into just a git after premiering as a prat. He’s become patient with the interns, less into himself, and has even limited himself to one woman in bed at a time. It’s like he was a changed person.

Then, what happened tonight? He just stood there and stared as this guy pummeled his brother-in-law who was a suspected sexual assaulter. Stood there as this guy was quickly bloodied and bruised. And, he did absolutely nothing about it. What a dick. Until the end of the episode, when we found out why he was being such an a-hole. Then … Oh. Well, he’s still a dick, but it makes sense now.

What makes sense? Well, click ahead and you’ll find out.
