LostWith all my recent watching of The Wire, I’ve had Lance Reddick on the brain. These days he’s busy playing Broyles on Fringe, but last season he was one of Lost’s most intriguing new faces: Matthew Abaddon.

He wasn’t a featured player, but I think any Lost fan will remember Abaddon as the man behind the science team on the freighter. That wasn’t the only thing he was doing in season four, though. We also saw him take a very creepy visit to Hurley in the mental institution where he claimed to be a lawyer from Oceanic Airlines. The final appearance by Abaddon was in one of Locke’s flashbacks, where he was an orderly during Locke’s rehab after his broken back and paralyzation. After all these appearances, though, Abaddon remains a complete and utter mystery. Let’s discuss.

Lost in Lost – Season 5 Preview

Bob Degon on January 1st, 2009 3:00 PM

LostBrothers and sisters, I have seen the future … and it is good. You’ve probably seen the reviews of the season five premiere all over the interwebs over the past few days. I was also  lucky enough get to see the first two episodes of the upcoming season. I don’t want to spoil anything, but I do want to let you know that they are totally worth the wait. Season five promises to move at lighting fast speeds. Well, lightning fast for Lost, anyway.

I was thinking that this season was going to focus on the Oceanic Six trying to get back to the island, with the finale finally seeing them return. Now, I’m not so sure. Rest assured, answers are given, and as always, more questions are posed. Would you have it any other way?

I’ve never been a huge fan of the Claire character on Lost. I’ve always found her slightly annoying, mostly due to her propensity to walk up and down the beach yelling “Chah-leee!” at the top of her lungs. It drove me nuts.

When her rocker boyfriend sacrificed himself to get his fellow castaways saved I found myself a lot more sympathetic to the island’s blonde mommy. Besides being far less annoying, she’s been given a big juicy mythological plot. She’s not just being pregnant, whining at Charlie, and getting kidnapped. Instead she seems to have up and disappeared. This all leads to one big question – what the hell is Claire’s deal these days?

Lost in Lost – Jin: dead or alive?

Bob Degon on December 11th, 2008 9:00 AM

We all saw it. At the end of last season Jin was left behind on the freighter as it exploded, leaving poor Sun wailing for her husband and father of her unborn child. It was one of the more powerful moments we have ever seen on Lost. At the time I thought for sure that Jin was a goner. There’s no way he could survive an explosion like that, right?  Right?

Well, there are a large number of people who refuse to believe that Jin is actually dead. He is missing from the regular cast for next season and he doesn’t appear in the super-creepy cast photo for the new season. Seriously, this photo is so bizarre. It doesn’t even look like it’s an actual photograph — it looks more like someone’s thesis project for a Master’s Degree in Photoshopping. I digress…

I don’t know whether Jin is dead or not, but I do know one thing (*mild spoiler alert*):

Lost in Lost – Two minutes of season 5

Bob Degon on December 4th, 2008 10:00 AM

We’re still more than a month away from the premiere, but that doesn’t mean all is quiet in the world of Lost. We were treated to our first sneak peak at the new season this week. I’m not talking about a trailer here, but a whole two minutes from the season’s first episode!

Alright, it’s a little sad that I can get this excited over two minutes of a TV show, but Lost does crazy things to me. If you haven’t seen it yet, I’ve embedded the clip after the jump. It features Kate and Aaron and a mysterious group of visitors to Kate’s home….

Other happenings this week include a chat transcript from Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse and an amazing discovery I made on the ABC website.

Have you ever noticed how the US media loves euphemisms? Somehow genocide has become “ethnic cleansing” and our current economic clusterfuck has been dubbed an “economic downturn.” What does this have to do with Lost? Well, the alternate reality game, that I’ve mentioned before has been canceled. Well, not completely canceled, but everything that had been planned has been scrapped. I guess ABC is cutting budget fairly aggressively. Seeing as they axed three of their best shows, I’d say that’s a fair statement.

Regardless of the situation, all the fun Dharma goodness that we were getting has abruptly ended. Frankly, I’m not that heartbroken. I’m not sure if budget problems were effecting the ARG before it was shut down outright, but it pretty much sucked. It was really slow in developing and there was no story behind it. I had hoped that it would pick up the pace as we approached the new season, but I guess it did the exact opposite. So it goes.

I wrote a while back about the alternate reality game (ARG), as they call it, that Lost is doing this off-season. It began at Comic Con back in July and has been chugging along, ever so slowly, since then. The big theme of this year’s ARG is the Dharma Initiative, who actually had a booth at Comic Con and were “recruiting” people to join the organization. Luckily for those Lost obsessors, like myself, who were unable to make it to San Diego, we were able to sign up online as well.

After a series of tests and quizzes on the “Dharma Wants You” website, we were finally given our fancy Dharma Initiative assignments this week. What, do you ask, is my recommended profession within the mysterious Dharma Initiative? Proof Reader.  Awesome. Did anyone else participate? Let me know if you got a fancier job than me in the comments.

I’m hoping this next step in the ARG will mean that there will be some actual action coming up. The previous ARGs (there have been two others) were a lot more fast paced and story driven than this lame-ass one.

Now on to some interesting spoilers that came out this week. If you’re averse to that kind of thing, don’t jump….
