Buffy the Vampire Slayer - "The Dark Age"(Season 2, Episodes 5-8)

I know adults are people, too. Hell I play one in reality. And yet, like Buffy, I never bothered to think much of Giles beyond his role as a Watcher. Now I’m going to be suspicious that everyone with a British accent might have hung with Rupert back in the day. I think he, Piers Morgan and Simon Cowell used to all hang out and pass judgment on all the other kids.

We’re also making steady progress on integrating Cordelia more into the Scooby gang. She’s even less god-awful annoying, though Xander doesn’t think so yet. As for Oz: in four episodes, he had exactly two scenes, where he pined after Willow. When does Seth Green really join this show?

This week, I’m pondering the Ax Men’s ineptitude, Fox’s power shun, and Kitty’s stupidity. Read on, and clack to me in the comments below.

I’ve got an ax to grind with Ax Men. Is it just me, or do their shenanigans not bode well for the woodcutting industry? Between snapped cables, runaway logs, and machines that burst into flames, it’s amazing that Rygaard Logging isn’t mired in lawsuits. I guess it’s fitting that the sponsor of this History Channel show is Nationwide Insurance. I hope they’re on their side.

Kitty Walker is a complete dope. I mean, she’s got Rob Lowe — Rob Lowe! — at home and she’s out in the park picking up strangers. Dope. Makes me want to grab the scruff of her neck and shake her.

lie-to-me2I have already written about my disappointment with Lie to Me. I’ll watch tonight, too, but I’m not sure it’s going to get any better. It’s also hard for me to get invested in the show; my reason for this is in my list of why I think the show is going to be canceled. Pair that with my belief that the show is not going to be with us long, and it is hard for me to get excited about it.

A quick Google search showed me that I’m not the only one who predicts a grim future for the show. Buzzdash did a poll of readers to see who thinks the show will be canceled, and deservedly so, and so far that response is winning. TV by the Numbers tries to predict which shows will be picked up again, and there is an interesting discussion of Lie to Me in the comments. People seem to be equally convinced that if House, 24, and Bones can make it that there is a future for Lie to Me AND that the show will get canceled because it hasn’t resonated with viewers. Moral Waiver(Season 1, Episode 2 – “Moral Waiver”)

I actually hemmed and hawed and postponed this post. Pun not intended. But I fiddled around on Facebook and then watched The Closer that I had Tivo’d from Monday so I could think about Lie to Me more.

I want to like this show. I want this show to be really good so I enjoy watching it. And then I want it not to get canceled. I’m not willing to dismiss the show after its second episode; after all, I loved the pilot. However, networks are not so forgiving. And Lie to Me is going to have to step things up or it’s going to get canceled fast. I mean, Lost is just a click away, people. Read the rest of this entry »

(1/12 – 1/18)

No. Not really. In fact, it was the lowest rated premiere the show has ever had. Somehow though, ABC managed to massage those numbers so much that they felt ok producing a promo that called it bigger than ever. It’s lipstick on a pig. DVR, streaming, illicit downloads, no matter what spin you want to put on it, Lost is way down from its once lofty numbers, and it has virtually no chance of ever regaining those lost viewers. It’s not all bad though, because what is left of the audience is still pretty substantial. We’ll get to those numbers, find out what happened in the latest round of the Grey’s / CSI battle, and see if those 30 Rock numbers managed to drop again, after the jump. (Season 1, Episode 1 – “Pilot” – Series/Season Premiere)

As I stated in my preview of Lie to Me, I’m a fan. I talked about liking the writing and the cast in that preview, but I wanted to talk specifically about the pilot for this post. Apart from the show airing opposite Lost, I am hopeful that Lie to Me will have a long and healthy run.

The seeds have been sown for some interesting sub-plot points among the main characters: Dr. Gillian Foster has a husband who lies to her; Dr. Cal Lightman has a teenage daughter, and a former wife who is a smart girl he used to trust; Eli Loker can’t seem to help saying whatever is on his mind … and he wants to sleep with Ria Torres. So, welcome to your first day of work: Here is your dose of sexual harassment. Read the rest of this entry »
