Veronica Mars(Season 2, Episodes 17-19)

I’m heading into the final handful of episodes of the second season of Veronica Mars and things are beginning to come together. This season has certainly been a lot murkier than the first, but I’m still enjoying it.

Season one was really tight, whereas this second one seems to be more sprawling. There are just so many things going on: PCH vs the Fitzpatricks, the bus crash, the new mayor, Kendall and the Casablancas family, the murder of Felix, and Terrance Cook. That’s quite a list, and I didn’t even include the digression of Duncan and his love child (insert eye roll here).

Veronica Mars(Season 2, Episodes 13-16)

One of the things that I’ve really grown to appreciate about Veronica Mars is the setting that Rob Thomas created. Neptune is a place where it is almost believable that horrible things happen every week. With the air of class warfare, it really is a place that would be rife with crime and shenanigans. It’s sort of like how the Hellmouth on Buffy explained why there was a new monster every week on that show.

ggdarknight(Season 2, Episode 3)

The second season of Gossip Girl is slowly starting to look like it’s picking up speed and I finally feel like I really know the characters. Of course, I realize that as soon as I get comfortable with who these characters are, the writers are going to do something nuts and pull the rug out from under my feet (note the three prepositions in a row to show maximum intensity/confusion). Like, is Chuck secretly a woman with a casual love of elaborate smoking jackets? Wait, wait. Actually, don’t tell me.

Veronica Mars(Season 1, Episodes 21-22)

Well, I’ve finished season one of Veronica Mars. It seems like the popular opinion is that season one was the best, which has me a little nervous moving in to season two. I enjoyed season one, but didn’t fall over myself in love with the show. It’s a fun romp, but I didn’t think it was anything more than that. The season long mystery was great, but some episodes were subpar.

Just a little warning: I’m going to get a bit nitpicky after the jump.

Veronica Mars(Season 1, Episodes 17-20)

I’m a little surprised that I’ve gotten this far into the season without bringing up a very important point. How terrible is Veronica’s flashback wig? I can’t help laughing whenever the show flashes back and poor Kristen Bell is wearing that limp mop head of fake blonde hair. I understand that the show probably had a pretty small budget, but that thing is really the best they could come up with?

Anyways, onto the more important things, like Veronica and Logan suddenly becoming a couple. Yowza. Frankly, I’ve been enjoying Keith and Alicia Fennel much more than Veronica and Logan.

Veronica Mars(Season 1, Episodes 13-16)

Yes, last week I (facetiously) said that I was looking for more issues that I could relate to directly, such as a student sleeping with a teacher (which happened at my high school in my senior year). Little did I know that one of the next episodes was going to feature that exact story. Like with all of the Veronica Mars stories, there was a twist… but it was still a teacher sleeping with a student.

I’m making my way through season one pretty quickly, with only a handful of episodes left. I still don’t have a good answer for the season mystery, but I maintain that there is something fishy with Celeste Kane.

Veronica Mars(Season 1, Episodes 9-12)

With my expectations reeled back in, I’m really starting to enjoy Veronica Mars now. It’s a fun show, and the ongoing mystery is intriguing.  With that being said, I was promised smart and respectful treatment of real teenage issues. So far I’ve seen transexual parents, cults, children switched at birth, and secret societies. I don’t know about you, but I never dealt with any of those things in high school. Now, if there were an episode about a teacher getting fired for having an affair with a student, then I could relate (true story, that actually happened while I was in high school).

I’m poking fun a little bit here, because I enjoy the fun, slightly off-the-wall plots. The really crazy ones usually end up being some of the better episodes.
