Medium – Night of the Living Dubois

If ever there were a show that was suited to having a Halloween themed episode, it’s The Munsters. But then, not far after that on the list, it’s Medium. Allison’s abilities bring their own spooky vibe to every episode, and it really does dovetail nicely with this time of year. The Medium team really went all out with “Bite Me”, doing a really convincing job of inserting Allison into George Romero’s zombie-classic, Night Of The Living Dead. As if solving a murder wasn’t a hard enough gig, try doing that while battling zombies all night. Read the rest of this entry »
Ghost of Halloween past: a round-up of posts

Hot damn, I love Halloween time. Deb hates it, but I freaking love it. And being that I live in New England, it’s like Halloween Central here. The fall leaves, the crisp air, and Salem a mere hour’s drive away. I have a yearly ritual of planning for a late night and early morning of TV and movie watching on Halloween night, which is why I love Rich’s regular Halloween programming posts to keep handy. It’s also part of why Deb hates Halloween, because I’m a big ball of useless junk when I finally wake up the next day. [Edit Deb: Hey! I made Halloween orange muffins in jack-lantern and ghost muffin pans... I'm not a total grinch!]
Let’s take a quick look back at some Halloween themed posts we’ve done in the past in order to honor the night, shall we?
Community – Okay, Abed as Batman made me love you again

Is it just me, or does it seem like more shows are going all out for Halloween this year? This week was Community’s Halloween episode, and it made me ridiculously happy. While the plot was another “Jeff acts like a jerk, makes people sad, learns his lesson and fixes everything” one, the character elements really made it stand out.
It’s no secret that Britta has been bothering me the past few episodes, but I really enjoyed her in this one. From her ridiculous squirrel costume that she wears because she hates it when women dress up as sluts for Halloween (all of my college Halloween costumes involved me being hugely pregnant for the exact same reason), to her snapping the head off of Professor Robin Hood’s trophy at the end of the episode, she was interesting to me for the first time in several weeks.
Webisode Clack – The Scare Game

It’s that time of year kids. Halloween is right around the corner. And in my little world that means horror movies. Lots of them. With blood by the bucketful. You can’t just jump right in to a crazy Friday The 13th marathon without warming up though. You might pull something. Thankfully, the fine folks over at Uncanny Entertainment are hard at work on the perfect pre-bloodbath prep. That would be The Scare Game. The show is a horror comedy from writer/director Phil Hughes, and for fans of horror, it has the potential to be a very fun ride. Read the rest of this entry »
Napoleon Dynamite wakes up “Dead” – Webisode Clack
First Kafka made Gregor wake up as a bug. Now, Drex Greene is waking up in a body bag. Sony pictures is venturing into webisodes (jumping on the same bandwagon as NBC with The Office and SyFy with Battlestar Galactica, to name two others). In Woke Up Dead, Jon Heder, probably best known for playing the starring role in Napoleon Dynamite, plays Drex Greene, just a regular guy in his twenties, who wakes up in a body bag, scaring the young medical student tech (Krysten Ritter from 27 Dresses and Breaking Bad) who was presumably about to slice him open for an autopsy (or cut his clothes away, who knows?)
TV in the Movies – Does TV need more horror?

I just finished watching Harper’s Island on Hulu. If you’re not aware, it ran on CBS this past spring and summer for 13 bone-chilling, spine-tingling installments. Actually, it wasn’t very scary, but the premise was admirable, if not altogether original. It had a very Screamish feel to it, minus the wild popularity. Poor ratings aside, I still think more series like Harper’s Island should be considered by the “big” networks. Why? Variety is the spice of life, or so I’ve heard.
Diary of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer Virgin – Giles has a past … who knew?
(Season 2, Episodes 5-8)
I know adults are people, too. Hell I play one in reality. And yet, like Buffy, I never bothered to think much of Giles beyond his role as a Watcher. Now I’m going to be suspicious that everyone with a British accent might have hung with Rupert back in the day. I think he, Piers Morgan and Simon Cowell used to all hang out and pass judgment on all the other kids.
We’re also making steady progress on integrating Cordelia more into the Scooby gang. She’s even less god-awful annoying, though Xander doesn’t think so yet. As for Oz: in four episodes, he had exactly two scenes, where he pined after Willow. When does Seth Green really join this show?
