breaking_badThis week was ridiculous when it came to quotes. Breaking Bad came back, and while it’s still the most depressing show in the world, it had some good quotes. Plus, we’ve got House, Big Bang Theory, and a great episode of The Office. These are our favorite quotes of the week, but if there are some that you loved, feel free to leave them in the comments.

Breaking Bad

Walter: “I’ve got a better idea.”
Jesse: “Thank god! All right, what is it, Mr. White? Lay it on me.”
Walter: “Beans.”
Jesse: “Beans?”
Walter: “Castor beans.”
Jesse: “So what are we going to do with them? Are we just going to grow a magic beanstalk? Huh? Climb it and escape?”

“He’s there, isn’t he?” — Foreman, to Wilson over the phone
“That would certainly explain the inappropriate responses.” — Wilson

I’m not usually one for shaking things up on House — I like the formula and I make no excuses for my tunnel vision and my narrow mind. Tonight’s episode, though, veered from the formula a bit and it worked for me.

The part that worked? House on Methadone. I liked seeing House in a good mood; he was still funny, if not particularly quotable. He still toyed with his team, faking not breathing after his near-miss … poor Kutner.

House – Cameron says yes to House

(Season 5, Episode 13 – “Big Baby”)

Tonight’s episode was almost typical House, but something was just a bit off throughout every storyline. It was as if a writer who never worked on House before wrote this episode solo, because although it was still pretty good, it just didn’t click.

For instance, House is usually so quotable that I am pausing my DVR every few minutes to type in the good quotes. Just last week, I did an entire post full of the House quotes alone. This week, I still laughed out loud, but there just weren’t as many stand-alone quotes as there usually are.

Oh, how I missed Dr. House during the winter hiatus. The interactions between the team were getting more intricate and fascinating, and the last month has been sadly lacking in quotes, without the spectacular Dr. House around.

He’s back, and in tip-top shape, with a quotable episode starting this new year.

“House, I’ve got a DYFS home visit on Friday.” — Cuddy
“And I’ve got a w-h-o-r-e visit on ah ….” — House

I wrote earlier this week about how refreshing it was that House’s new team was finally getting some personality. A good part of this is due to Kutner’s foray into Internet medical advice; you know, his website giving second opinions as the famous Dr. House. As commenter Derek mentioned, Kutner is book smart but people dumb, which, although it makes us bang our heads against the wall watching him sometimes, surely worked in our favor this week, since he underestimated House.

Seriously, how could Kutner not even entertain the thought that House might find out about the website? We all know that House does have a personality, and that his retribution would be good. I wasn’t banking on how good, though.

(Season 5, Episode 8 – “Emancipation”)

Seriously — what is Foreman’s problem? I really thought we had already been down this road. When he originally quit working for House, it was because he was afraid he’d become just like him. Then money talked and we’ve got him back, basically with his tail between his legs.

So now, all of a sudden, Foreman decides to flex his independent muscle and he’s bound and determined not to rely on House. Meanwhile, a four-year-old’s life is at stake and Foreman is too proud to ask House for help.

(Season 5, Episode 7)

The fun I was missing in last week’s mean-spirited episode came at me with a vengeance tonight. Yay! There were so many quotes that I couldn’t even get them all down (but after the jump you’ll get to read most of ‘em!).

We had relationships explored, an interesting case of the week, and the theme of being afraid to be happy. Is it worth taking the risk to be happy? The juxtaposition of the agoraphobic and House in their quests for happiness was a stroke of brilliance on the part of the writers, as usual, and I was so, so glad that the funny was back.
