community 1x08

Way to go, Julia. You write about how great the episode endings with Abed and Troy are, and Community stops doing them. As much as I did enjoy the rap at the end, it really just wasn’t the same. Other than that, I loved this week’s episode, although it brings up a worrisome point for me: where are these people going to go?

Yes, that’s a concern in any school-based series, but Community faces some challenges that others don’t. If this were a group of high school students, they could all randomly decide to stay in town and go to college together, as has been the way for years, from Saved by the Bell’s UC Berkeley (CAL) to Gossip Girl’s NYU. If it were a regular college show, new castmembers could be rotated in to pick up the slack after original ones graduated. However, Community is a little bit more difficult– and this week’s episode highlights that difficulty.

Gossip Girl – Hookers

gossip girl 3x08

I love how everyone on Gossip Girl tonight was basically dealing in human trafficking: either they were selling themselves, or selling out everyone else. Although, I guess that could pretty much be said for every episode of Gossip Girl– they just spelled it out for us this time.

Today is election day all over this great land of ours, so this episode is especially timely. Gossip Girl can hardly be accused of realism, but I really enjoyed what they did with the election storyline. America loves a good hero, and it seems as though New York, especially, has a local hero about every week.

But enough about heroes. Let’s talk about hookers– and how Serena is totally a big one.

gossip girl serena blair

(Season 2, Episode 9)

Blair’s desperation to get into Yale lands her in yet another sticky situation, dealing with a hormone-crazy girl who would rather go out than stay at home, reading Harry Potter and eating ice cream. At this point, I’m so curious to know where are the characters end up attending school, I’m tempted to jump ahead and read spoilers for the upcoming season. As I’ve mentioned before, if I find that they all end up at the same university, I will break something. Maybe I should just hold off until I absolutely have to know, because I’m getting the feeling there’s a stupid cop-out coming.

chuck and blair on gossip girl

(Season 2, Episode 8)

Oh, no. An unlikely couple has sprung out of nowhere. Nate and Little J are sucking face in a darkened street and I am uncomfortable for having witnessed that. Is it because it’s almost like watching Dan and Jenny make out? Or is it because Jenny’s built like a 12-year-old boy and that’s all I can see? I mean, really, I can’t unsee things, people.

Did you ever wonder what it would be like if Jason Priestley directed Falcon Beach? No? Maybe I should back up and ask if you ever saw Falcon Beach. I’m not sure how it happened, but somewhere along my television viewing path I developed an affinity for the teen drama. Mostly, I blame the-N. Because they go there! At any rate, after more Degrassi and South Of Nowhere episodes than I could possibly count, I’m hooked on the things. The Lake is theWB.com’s latest entry into the genre. And everyone’s favorite 90210 alum, Jason Priestley, is at the helm. Read the rest of this entry »

(Season 2, Episodes 6-7)

Does Gossip Girl ever have peaks and valleys when it comes to drama? For a season and a half, it has felt like just … stuff happening. It’s non-stop and ridiculous, that’s for sure, but it doesn’t feel like there are consequences to anyone’s actions. For a while, I thought the Georgina storyline was going to be a biggie, but that quickly faded into nothing. Even the whole murder-y business was quickly shrugged off with a “No worries, I talked to the dead guy’s parents and they’re chill” (not verbatim, but close). If it takes someone stabbing Serena in the face, forcing her to get major reconstructive surgery to shake things up on a larger scale, then Make. It. Happen.

(Season 2, Episode 5)

You guys, you guys. I have a confession. This show is exhausting me again. All these girls are so mean and I’m tiring myself out from ducking and dodging their flying cat claws. If we could find a way to power machines with super-bitchery, Gossip Girl would save the environment. Someone get on that. I mean, even Little J has gone back to being a little troublemaker, which is kind of bumming me out.
