NUMB3RS

I’m happy to report that repeats really seem to suck tonight. I’m happy because that means you can spend your time watching the season premieres of Psych and Monk on USA, instead! If for some reason you’re a cold, cold bastard and don’t care for those shows, here’s what’s notable in repeats tonight:

  • At 8 PM, CBS has a repeat from the fourth season of Ghost Whisperer, called “Ghost Busted,” the CW has an episode of Smallville entitled “Turbulence,” and NBC has Southland.
  • At 9 you can catch According to Jim on ABC, Everybody Hates Chris on the CW or Flashpoint on CBS.
  • Finally, at 10, you can catch the Numb3rs episode on CBS called “Sneakerhead.”

I know, I know — you go out clubbing on Friday nights, so why on earth do you care about repeats? Lest you forget the power of the DVR, you might just want to revisit some gems this weekend:

  • On CBS on Friday night, Melinda stalks new Jim on the Ghost Whisperer tonight. Weigh in on whether or not you think it’s creepy or sweet.
  • What does Saturday bring? I’m sure you’ll all be watching the finale of Harper’s Island with us — right? In the event you’ve already read all the Canadian sites and completely spoiled the ending for yourself, then you might want to catch author Rick Castle’s onion goggles in tonight’s episode on ABC instead.
  • Sunday night, CBS re-airs Cold Case’s “Lotto Fever,” not Jackie’s favorite episode because the case only went back to 2007, not far enough.
  • Or, head over to ABC and re-watch Desperate Housewives‘ “Mama Spent Money When She Had None” and see which desperate housewife you identify with.

Man … last week was just a bloodbath in the ratings. With the exception of Thursday night, it was bad news for all of the shows at the top of my list for every night. Kings on Sunday, Chuck and Heroes on Monday, Reaper on Tuesday, Better Off Ted and Lost on Wednesday, and Dollhouse on Friday. Not a lot of good to report for any of them. On a brighter note, there was good news for the returning Fringe, and the debuts of Parks & Recreation, Southland, and Harper’s Island. Read the rest of this entry »

It was a bit of a strange week for ratings. The Academy Awards (36.31m/12) sent most of the Sunday lineup into repeats. And the Obama address to Congress mixed things up on Tuesday, shifting Idol to Wednesday and Thursday. That, of course, had a ripple effect throughout the ratings. Elsewhere, the new FOX Friday suffered another drop that now calls into question whether or not we will even see the final episodes of Terminator:TSCC. Read the rest of this entry »

(1/12 – 1/18)

Yes, of course, the big story this week was the return of American Idol. It didn’t disappoint, from a numbers perspective. Both installments easily won their nights. We all expected that though, right? The more interesting bit of the Idol story was the effect the show had, or didn’t have, on the ratings of other shows. While J.D. and the kids over at Scrubs were probably shaking their fists in the general direction of Idol, the CBI, and their pals at NCIS hardly even noticed. In addition to all the Idol shenanigans, CSI said goodbye to Grissom. Read the rest of this entry »

(Season 4, Episode 9 – “Pieces of You”)

I was on board the idea of killing Jim to shake up the show. I thought him being a ghost who hung around Melinda and helped her out from the other side was nothing short of brilliant. It would allow us to learn more about the other side and what the ghosts experienced there. We would get the emotional torment of Melinda not being able to get any closure or move on because Jim was still there.

We’d get to see their love transcend death and become something far greater, though much more morbid. And we got that … for exactly one episode. Now we’ve got Jim 2.0 and it’s Eric Green from Jericho. While it’s nice to see Kenneth Mitchell getting some regular work, playing the mirror image to Jim’s Dr. Sam Beckett isn’t much of a gig. Not to mention that the whole situation is just too weird.
