TV on DVD for October 13th

It’s another slow week down at the DVD factory. The only current shows releasing sets this week are Flashpoint and Legend Of The Seeker. There are a few other sets from past favorites to take a look at. Heading that list is the Limited Edition Futurama set. The complete series, in a Bender head. You can also look for classics like Land Of The Lost, Married… with Children, and Looney Toons. As well as a couple interesting imports in The Mighty Boosh, Lovejoy, and My Family. The complete list is after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
The Week Ahead – Lots of goodbyes, 25 years of Wrestlemania
Highlights of the Week
- There was a time when I was a huge fan of the WWF/E. It was Andre the Giant and George “The Animal” Steele back then, though I kept up through the early days of Steve Austin and the Undertaker. I still keep some awareness of the soap opera there. And considering I watched the first several, it makes me feel old that we’re celebrating The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania. (Sat. 9pm, NBC)
- It’s always sad when the boys say goodbye to another season of Penn & Teller: Bullshit! It’s the best combination of entertainment and information that you’ll see. And I’m sure there’ll be absolutely nothing controversial about the magicians tackling the Vatican in this finale. (Thu. 10pm, Showtime)
- I’m glad to see that Royal Pains will be back, as it turned into a great summer getaway to the Hamptons. Sadly, it’s back to the real world for the rest of us as it wraps its first season. (Thu. 10pm, USA)
- Some of the best television of the summer has been coming to us from the UK. This week wraps the too short first season of Being Human; the story of a ghost, vampire and werewolf trying to live like normal people. (Sat. 9pm, BBC America)
- The movies brought the show back. Futurama: Into the Wild GreenYonder is the last of those movies, making it’s debut on Comedy Central. Sit back, enjoy and think about the beautiful Futurama to come. (Sun. 9pm)
FOX Sunday night lineup – Clacking the dream
Yes, the 2008-2009 network television season’s in the bag. But, you know what? It’s not all tears and depression. Let’s be honest; most nights, the networks air a pretty stinky lineup of shows. Apparently, it’s really hard to put on three straight hours of quality programming, and some networks even struggle to put on two (and when that’s hour-long shows, it’s only two series per night. Why so tough, FOX and The CW?)
But even more true is the fact that today is no exception. The networks have rarely managed to keep us satisfied all night (this is a family post, perverts!), so enough with our lamenting the good old days. Instead, I propose an alternative: a build your own strongest lineup for each night of the week from each one of the big four networks (never will The CW have enough good to qualify. Although we might be able to mine something from The WB and/or UPN….)
A few months back, we discussed the ultimate in nights of television, NBC’s Must See Thursdays. But, plenty of other nights, and other networks, have storied histories (both good and bad). So, with a little suggestion from Peter Lynn, and a little chronological order, what say we visit Sundays on FOX, first. Read the rest of this entry »
Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder – CliqueClack Giveaway
I got into the Futurama craze way too late, well after its last episode aired during its regular run. Since then I’ve caught up — multiple times — and have all of the direct-to-DVD movies. Needless to say, I’ve loved them all, and thankfully the show continues to live on with more movies. What happened to the series coming back to TV, though?
The latest Futurama movie, Into the Wild Green Yonder, comes out on DVD tomorrow. We’re giving away three copies of the title this week, however, one of those three copies will be given to anyone who enters a comment below and has an email that’s registered with our mailing list — the other two copies will go to random commenters, no matter what email address is given.
CliqueClack Presidential Election – It’s Voting Time!
If you’ve been keeping up, you know that here at CliqueClack, we’ve been nominating some of our favorite TV characters for president. With that silly actual election a week away, we figured it was time to start the voting for CliqueClack president. Be sure to vote. You have a civic duty here. Plus, there are no pesky age minimums or citizenship requirements to vote in this election.
The poll will be open for one week, until election day on November 4th. Let’s quickly review all of the nominees (and you can click on their names for more details)….
CliqueClack Presidential Nominations: Head of Richard Nixon for president

FOX
As you may have already noticed, we’re holding our own nominations of who from our favorite TV characters we think should be nominated for president this election season. I admit fellow Clacker Bob Degon has put himself behind one worthy candidate in Laura Roslin. I am here to officially endorse the candidate I feel would be best suited for the job of President of the United States:
The Head of Richard Nixon, from Futurama.
Let’s weigh former tricky-Dick’s pros and cons, shall we?

- The New CW Sunday begins early at 5:30p/4:30 Central with Casey Affleck’s excursion to Pawnee-Oklahoma to meet with and learn about the Native Americans who make this their home in a new 4Real.
7:00p/6:00 Central
- Then, In Harm’s Way takes a look at the dangerous profession of war photographer. Alternately, NBC kicks off their night of football with Football Night in America, while ABC offers up a fresh America’s Funniest Home Videos. Is there anything we haven’t seen yet ever on this show?
- CBS’s 60 Minutes offers up stories of bullfighting brothers in Spain, warfare in Afghanistan, and the multi-billion dollar bank bailout in the US.
