Harry Groener as Mayor Richard Wilkins III in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"(Season 3, Episodes 5-8)

The background of these four episodes is the slow burning of affection between Xander and Willow. We know they’ve had feelings for one another since the beginning, but did the writers have to wait until both were in relationships that I actually enjoyed to go and screw it all up?

They still haven’t figured out what to do with Oz as a character, so he’s been relegated to background scenery in most of these episodes. I wonder if this has to do with Seth Green ultimately leaving the show. You’d think you could use your werewolf a little better. Read the rest of this entry »

Dollhouse finally gave the world the final episode of season one last week, at the San Diego Comic-Con…. OK, so it really gave the rest of us the episode this week, with the DVD and Blu-ray release, but who’s splitting hairs? Brett talked about it last week, but now that everyone is getting a chance to see it, I wanted to chime in with my thoughts.

The same spoiler warnings apply if you still haven’t seen it, but if you haven’t, what the hell? Stop what you’re doing, drive to your local Best Buy (or DVD retailer of your choice), and then come back and talk to me. (And yes, I know the torrent has been available for a week or two now, but follow the guest star of the episode’s advice, and buy the DVD, or you can win a copy from us).

Eliza Dushku as Faith, the Vampire Slayer(Season 3, Episodes 1-4)

So it looks like our “werewolf in love” is a regular cast member in the new season. And David Boreanaz is still there, as well. Does that mean Angel’s not dead (OMG; for realz?!).

I appreciated the slow burn to bring things back to a semblance of normalcy, though I found myself wondering if Joss and company are going to just dump all over Buffy through this whole show. It’s almost sadistic of them. And absolutely heartbreaking to watch the pain overwhelming Buffy. Read the rest of this entry »

Where was I? Oh, yeah. Last I left you, Chief was still mourning cute-as-a-button Cally after she was blown out the airlock by evil Tory; Gaius was spewing his “God loves perfection, and since humans are perfect, God loves humans” jargon; Saul was hallucinating that Ellen was the Six prisoner; the Cylons were smack dab in the middle of a Civil War; and Starbuck and her ragtag crew of deep space explorers were still scouring the Universe for the elusive orb known as Earth. So far, I was digging the direction season four was heading. Do I still feel that way?

I am (finally) wrapping up watching through all five seasons of Angel. I’ve owned the DVDs for a while, and have seen the series before, but I had lent them out, for what had become a very long time, and was exited to have them back. I’ve been fighting back continually talking about Angel, albeit admittedly not well, both with my Moonlight Virgin Diaries, and, well, other posts. Looking at the characters of Angel, Wyndam-Pryce really stands heads and shoulders above the rest when you look at the journey he has taken (especially including exactly how far he had to grow from his original appearance in Buffy).

Angel was a better show than Buffy

Buffy the Vampire Slayer fandom has been up in a rage recently, with the stories of the potential reboot hitting the interwebs. I’m personally in the camp of “Why?” and less in the camp of “NO!” than most others. Brett’s post got me to thinking, though, that I would be a whole lot more pissed off about someone rebooting Angel than Buffy. So, I guess it’s time to come out of the closet, and admit without shame that I think Angel is a better show.

I got off to a really rocky start with the show. And by rocky start, I mean I gave up after three episodes. Angel (the vampire, not the show) was probably my least favorite part of the first couple of seasons of BtVS. So, he gets a spin off, takes one of the other more annoying characters with him, and introduces a completely new third sidekick — I just couldn’t get hooked … until TNT reruns dragged me back in. After a couple episodes in early season three, it was like BOOM, and next thing you know, within a month, I had kind of purchased all five seasons on DVD.

Why is House so afraid of God?

Jen Creer on April 3rd, 2009 3:00 PM

houses-heart“You better not be praying in there!” House admonishes Lee (Mos Def), looming into the locked in patient’s face. In the scenes in which Lee and House are on the beach in Lee’s “happy place,” Lee admits that he doesn’t really know how to define his faith. However, by the end of the episode, he breathes, “God sent you,” causing House to grimace.

This is not new territory. In Season 4, “97 Seconds,” House jams a knife into an electrical socket to kill himself for a minute so he can see if there’s anything on the other side. He wants to know, so he can tell his patient that the paralyzed patient shouldn’t be so quick to want this life to end: House tells Wilson that there is nothing on the other side.

There is even an episode called “House vs. God,” in Season 2, during which Chase keeps track of House’s victories versus God’s miracles when it comes to a young teenage boy who thinks he’s a faith healer. Read the rest of this entry »
