I was a cartoon watching freak when I was a kid, especially in the early-to-mid ’80s. Two series that stick out in my mind during that time are Transformers and G.I. Joe. It’s not just the cartoons that bring back so many memories of that time. The PSAs. The toys. There was a huge culture around these shows, and there had been nothing like it since the days of when Star Wars action figures were in their prime.

When I saw that Shout! Factory was releasing the first mini-series that started it all — G.I. Joe: An American Hero — I couldn’t believe it hadn’t been released yet. I had to know: does this show stand up to the test of time? Would watching the episodes bring back those memories of my childhood? Do the DVDs include the PSAs?

This week’s a great one for Leverage fans, both new and old. Not only is the show’s second season premiering this Wednesday night at 9 PM (TNT), but the show’s first season comes out on DVD today! We’ll have a review up of what you get on that DVD sometime next week. Oh, and one more thing: we’re giving away three copies of Leverage: The 1st Season this week!

The USA network has some fine television programming; we’ve got Psych, Monk and Burn Notice, just to name a few. So, when news comes of a newcomer to the network, I’m very interested. One of these new shows is Royal Pains, and while it’s the type of show that feels right at home on a cable network like USA, so far it’s just not my cup of tea.

To me, Molly Ringwald will always be that funky-dressing chick from the wrong side of the tracks in Pretty in Pink, the enviable sixteen-year-old who got to kiss Michael Schoeffling a.k.a. Jake Ryan, in Sixteen Candles, and the sushi-eating rich girl in The Breakfast Club.

It seems that she’s old enough to be a mom of two teenage girls now — when did that happen? Tonight marks the return of ABC Family’s Kyle XY for its third season. We’ve got spoilers on Kyle XY’s third season from Matt Dallas himself, who states that we’ll see a darker Kyle this season, among other things. I’ve seen the premiere and my review will be up later tonight after it airs, but suffice it to say you won’t be disappointed and this season is set up to be the best yet.
