Secret Girlfriend – Webisode Clack

We’re taking a bit of liberty with the Webisode Clack column this week, to talk about a new show on Comedy Central, Secret Girlfriend. The show premiered with the first of six ordered episodes on Wednesday night. It’s notable here, though, because of its history. Secret Girlfriend started out as a mobile phone series, and then was later released as a web series through Atomic Wedgie.
That’s the interesting bit, because we haven’t seen a lot of shows make that jump from the web to broadcast. And the most notable one, quarterlife, did not fare well at all. Fortunately for Secret Girlfriend, it looks to be in a much better place. Not only is it a better match for its network, as the content fits the Comedy Central style very well, but it also has the luxury of South Park as a lead-in. On top of that, it’s also really funny. What do you watch in syndicated repeats?
I am a creature of habit. I live my life by a schedule and I love it. I’m that type of person that likes a clear cut plan, knowing where I am going to be and when I am going to be there.
For most parts of my life this works just fine, but there is one thing that seems to be in a rut: my TV watching schedule. You see, I tend to watch repeats of Scrubs on Comedy Central from 7 to 8 every weeknight. This may not seem like such a big deal, and in the scheme of things it’s really not, but keep in mind that I’ve been doing this for more than a couple years now. Think about that for a minute. I think I’ve seen every single episode of Scrubs at least four or five times, save for the most recent season or two.
Krod Mandoon – Of baths and ball sacs
What? We’re up to the Lucky Number 7 spot of Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire …. and you haven’t yet grabbed a front row seat for this series?
Whassamatta you? Are you so hoidy-toidy you need your comedy handed to you on a silver platter? Do you longingly yearn once more for the exploits of Jim Varney in “Ernest Goes To Jail” instead? Mayhap you’re waiting to spend your hard earned cash on the next “Blue Collar Comedy Tour?” Read the rest of this entry »
Krod Mandoon’s word play beats its sword play

Michael Noble’s back Guest-clacking again for us, after sharing his thoughts on American Idol with us….
I was enamored of comics when I was a kid. (Still am.) One of my favorites was Conan The Barbarian, the popular Cimmerian savage who went on to (rather bumbling) misadventures with Arnold Schwarzenegger as the title character on the big screen. With the release of The Savage Sword Of Conan comic magazine back in the day, I was enthralled month to month with the adventuresome exploits.
So imagine my childlike glee at word of a new swash-buckling series in the form of Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire on Comedy Central.
Do you like your barbarians with ripply six-packs, easy-on-the-eyes? Kröd’s got what you need. Do you enjoy a bit of swordplay and bawdy repartee? It’s here. You like snarky comments from evil doers, sneering assassins and ne’er-do-well doings to hiss at? Yup. Here you go.

South Park – The last supper at Whistlin’ Willy’s Pizza Gulch

I can’t understand why, out of everything that was hilarious and brilliant in this episode, Parker and Stone decided to name it “Margaritaville.” Stan’s journey all the way up to the U.S. Treasury took up a bit of the episode, but it wasn’t until the ending payoff that was worth the wait. But I will say that margaritas, when done right and without crappy bar mix, are damned tasty.
I’m surprised the theme of Kyle as Jesus hasn’t been used before on this show, especially with how often Cartman disses him constantly for being Jewish. We’ve seen the “actual” Jesus before, but mapping Kyle to Jesus, the economy to God and Cartman to Judas was sheer brilliance. And look at that “last supper” moment pictured above? Come on, that’s perfect!
Why the heck is SNL an hour and a half long?
I’ve been wondering about this for a little while now. I watch Saturday Night Live every week to review it. I watch every skit, no matter how overly long or unfunny it may be. I often marvel at how long the show seems as I’m watching it.
I recently came to the Earth-shattering realization that the show feels so long because the show is so long. At one-and-a-half hours run time, the show is longer than any of the variety shows, sketch shows, talk shows, dramas, or sitcoms on the air these days. This all leads me to ask the very obvious question: why???
