Are you ready for Chuck 2.0?

Chuck - "Chuck Versus the Ring"

I sure as hell am, and I am officially proposing the moniker change for next season. It’s certainly appropriate considering what went down at the end of the episode, and it fits in perfectly with the geek sensibility of the show. When the writers promised that everything would change on Chuck by the end of this season, they weren’t kidding.

We still don’t know where a lot of the characters are going and what could possibly be planned next, but the stakes are higher than we imagined and the potential for this series just rose exponentially. It’s a credit to the quality of the writing that halfway into this I felt sure that it was almost over, and again ten minutes later. They packed so much action and drama in such a short amount of time it’s amazing they got it all in. And we did get everything.

Chuck, Jeff and LesterLost? Check out my first and second installments in this great debate, comparing the main characters, friends, and co-workers of Chuck and Reaper! Vote below for your pick of the two.

The boss: Big Mike (and Harry and Emmett) vs. Ted: Not much to say about Michael “Big Mike” Tucker (Mark Christopher Lawrence). He rarely does any work, though he often yells at others for failing to hustle, and he loves fishing. Oh, and he loves him a good breakfast. Get the picture? At Buy More, it’s really the assistant manager who runs the show. We’ve already seen a few, as the sheer power of the position seems to lead people to self-implode. Harry Tang (CS Lee) ended up getting shipped to Hawaii by Casey (not job-performance related), while Lester’s (Vik Sahay) short stint in the role drove the store into the ground. The most recent holder of the office is Emmett Milbarge (Tony Hale, of Arrested Development). That resume is punishment enough. Plus, I can’t stop picturing him with a hook. I’d rather they went back to Lester. Read the rest of this entry »

Chuck, Sarah and CaseyLost? Check out my first installment in this great debate, that compares the main characters and the best friends of Chuck and Reaper!

The other go-to guy: Casey vs. Ben: It’s impossible to discuss John Casey, Buy More sales associate, without mentioning Major John Casey of the NSA. Of course, both are played by Adam Baldwin (no relation), and the similarities don’t end there. As a sales associate, Casey is aggressive, intimidating, stand-offish, elusive, and immune to repercussions. As an NSA agent … well, he’s pretty much the same thing. But, what I enjoy are the touches of humanity behind the constant scowl. Over time, Casey has clearly grown fond of Chuck (Zachary Levi). He’d never admit it, but it’s there. And never more so than when, in his unique position working inside Buy More, Casey rushes to Chuck’s aid each and every time he seems in danger. He’s like a protective papa.

So, who can match that? Read the rest of this entry »

reaper-workbench“When you buy more, you save more. And when you save more, you can buy more. And when you buy more, you save more. It all starts when you BUY MORE.”

Thus reads the simple motto of Buy More, employer to Chuck Bartowski and the rest of the crew (or some of them) on NBC’s Chuck. The Work Bench, job-home of Sam Oliver and gang on Reaper (The CW, returning 3/3 at 8:00 PM), doesn’t appear to have a motto. Or at least I can’t find it. But rest assured, it would probably be something catchy like that of the Buy More. Maybe, “When your workbench needs filling, for sawing and drilling; to The Work Bench you’ll flutter, this motto flows like butter.” Maybe not. Read the rest of this entry »

Spotlight Show of the Night

Heroes (NBC, 9:00 p.m./8:00 p.m. Central, Fall Finale) – Tonight, it all comes down to this in the final chapter (I believe) of “Villains.” Arthur Petrelli may be dead, but you know how well death sticks on this show. Nevertheless, this chapter of Heroes comes to a close tonight and we set the stage for the next. The show has really come together stronger these past few weeks. Tonight’s blurb says that the Petrelli brothers face off and Nathan makes a move with global implications.

Beginnings, Endings & Specials

Cat Dancers (HBO, 8:00 p.m./7:00 p.m. Central) – A 90-minute special looking at the sole survivor of an exotic-cat act recalls his days with the troupe, the challenges of training wild animals and the bond the three performers had, which was romantic all the way around, before a white bengal tiger tore it all apart.

So we’ve been doing these ‘Tonight on the Tube’ articles for awhile. Occasionally we even get a comment from you guys about a particular show you watch or are excited about. But all in all these go down pretty quietly. Are you liking them? Do you find them helpful? Too wordy? Not informative enough? This is your blog and we want this particular feature to benefit you as much as possible.

As such, we’re going to start experimenting with how we present this information to you. Do you want to see a full listing of what’s new on television tonight, or would you rather we use this space to spotlight a few key episodes or specials? Maybe you don’t want any of that and would prefer a basic list. Or maybe you just want me to ramble on about my belly button lint for five or six hundred words. And I can totally do that. Today it was the brightest blue you ever saw. Really, I should knit a sweater with it.

  • Bravo takes us First Class All the Way to Italy for the first of two episodes set there. This docu-drama is filled with the kind of stuff that makes Robin Leach cream himself, so tune in and wonder why they can’t throw a couple bones your way … or mine!
