Sanctuary – Did Helen Magnus shoot Bigfoot?

Ruby T. on November 21st, 2009 12:00 PM

Dr. Helen Magnus of the Sanctuary points a gun during a tense moment.

When Will finds out someone has been shot, did you have any doubt that it was Bigfoot? From reading the episode’s description, I was worried that this was going to be one of those trial stories, where the hero is accused of a crime but there is never any doubt that his friends will find a piece of evidence at the last moment to prove him innocent. But as I got sucked into the episode, I began to think, This is the episode I’ve been waiting for! Bigfoot is dead, and Magnus is slowly losing her mind over the death of Ashley.

Sanctuary – Chimp attack!!!

Ruby T. on November 14th, 2009 10:00 AM

Henry Foss (played by Ryan Robbins) of Sanctuary

Tonight’s episode of Sanctuary appears to have borrowed its plot from a real-life tragedy: the February 2009 mauling of Charla Nash by a domesticated, 200-pound chimpanzee named Travis. The opening scene of “Fragments” does a great job of evoking the horror of this kind of incident, particularly because Henry hears the attack happening over the phone. Read the rest of this entry »

The World Series was the big ratings winner last week, but with New York involved, everyone kind of expected that, right? What nobody expected — most notably ABC — was the success of the V premiere. The numbers weren’t just good. It was the highest rated scripted program on the network, topping the Housewives and Grey’s. Even better, the V demo rating was the highest for a scripted show on any of the networks.  Someone at ABC has to be kicking themselves for only ordering four episodes of V, while they continue to crank out more Hanks than they know what to do with. A combination of baseball and pre-sweeps repeats made for a bit of an odd week. Repeats don’t mean there aren’t numbers of note however. We had Jay Leno’s first shot against CSI: Miami and NY repeats, and a look at what running repeats on Friday does for FOX. That is, nothing good for Dollhouse season 3. Also interesting this week — The Mentalist finally topped CSI in viewers and the demo, and even a repeat Gibbs appearance is worth 16 million viewers. Read the rest of this entry »

We do often get caught up in the big numbers from the big networks. It is, after all, hard to overlook the fact that NCIS is still growing its audience in the 7th season. There are still some very interesting stories happening on the little network, CW. When it was announced that Vampire Diaries would be paired with Supernatural, while Smallville was shuffled off to Friday, many people expected that was the end.

The show wouldn’t be able to come back from a year grinding away on Friday nights. After a few weeks looking at the numbers though, that’s not the case at all. Clark and the gang can celebrate good times, despite taking a hit from the move. In fact, this week Smallville topped new episodes of One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, 90210, and Melrose Place. It’s far from done. Elsewhere, we had our first sizable crop of repeats this week, which brought some interesting results. Read the rest of this entry »

Santuary’s on Syfy tonight, and frequent reader of CliqueClack, Ruby T., is Guest Clacking today with a few reasons why you should be tuning in to the show. Ruby is a writer from Chicago and a science-fiction/fantasy aficionado (all right, a geek).

1) It’s derivative, but in a fun way. I always enjoy spotting a nice sci-fi homage (or rip-off, if you prefer). Sanctuary as a whole is a kind of mash-up of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and X-Men, with the ageless Helen Magnus as a Mina Harker/Prof. X character. But it gets better. I don’t even have to know the actual names of the episodes anymore. It’s just “that Tribbles episode” or “the Fight Club episode” or “the Cloverfield episode.” Tell me, what self-respecting geek would not be intrigued by this? (Okay, if you want to look up those episodes, their real titles are “Nubbins,” “Warriors,” and “Instinct.”) On a side note, you can also play “Spot-the-Syfy-Star” with Sanctuary’s guest roster featuring names like Rekha Sharma of Battlestar Galactica and Michael Shanks of Stargate.

Maybe you don’t agree with Jason’s last review of Sanctuary, or maybe you simply never caught the show in the first place and want to get in on the season one action. If either of those classify you, we’ve got five bits of good news for you. How does five copies of Sanctuary season one on DVD sound? Well, one to each random five of you, that is.
