Quotation Marks – Devito’s got quirk, Glee’s got luftballons, and Psych’s Shawn’s got bananas

Pulling quotes from our favorite TV shows is one of my favorite things to do (true story), but why limit our quotes to just the shows, when celebrities — and some of CliqueClack’s greatest — say some of the darnedest things? So, from time to time, we figured we’d share some of those funny lines.
Quotes from the Ether
“A chil[sic] day. Reflection.Shower No shave. Sneak in an episode of “Deadwood!” Ian McShane … What the F! Holy shitballs the M F C S is great!” – @Danny_Devito — who shared with us the above … er … picture. (via Twitter)
“Now I’m not just a good pooper, but an optimum one.” — David Duchovny, in his new Pedigree commercial
“sorority row opens today! bring on the blood the boobs and the comedy!!!” – @IMKristenBell — speaking directly to Brett’s heart. (via Twitter)
Leverage shakes up the balanced team

“You do not let Vicki Vale into the Batcave — ever.” – Hardison, on attorney Tara Carlisle tagging along with the team
There was something about the way the team worked together tonight that charmed me. Sure, they are always fun to watch and no one would deny that they need each other to successfully pull off the cons. But often in the episodes, one team member comes off stronger than the others, or one stands out as having the coolest moment of the episode.
I think it was deliberate, showing how balanced the team was tonight, given the twist at the end. And boy, am I excited for the January episodes to begin.
From whence the new dynamic on Team Leverage?

I finally caught last week’s episode of Leverage, and, more than anything else, what it did for me was solidify a question that’s been forming in my mind these last few weeks: since when is Sophie anything other than not really necessary?
Okay, maybe I should qualify that extreme of a question with “as far as I’m concerned.” Even so, where did all of that “we can’t do this without Sophie” come from? And, while we’re at it, since when is she qualified to be Nate’s co-leader, or to step in and fill his shoes, as she did four weeks back? Did I miss something? Read the rest of this entry »
Leverage revisits the traditional heist

“Why, so they can arrest Hardison’s ego?” – Eliot, on the state police coming
Leverage felt slightly off to me tonight after the last few spectacular episodes, but revisiting a traditional heist was a good move on the part of the producers. Some of the complaints we’ve been hearing in the comments here at CliqueClack have been things like Fray’s “we’ve reduced a team of brilliant thieves and masterminds to the A-team,” and Ivey’s “there seemed to be some fun missing out of the last several episodes [until "The Top Hat Job"]….”
While, like Ivey, I have loved the last couple of episodes, I felt like tonight’s did backslide a bit. I’m just not sure why we can’t have killer quotes and zippy flashbacks in all the episodes… but instead of complaining, I want to address the brilliant move that was the heist.
Ratings Clack – True Blood can’t be stopped
Seriously, what the heck is going on with True Blood? Where do all of these people keep coming from? The show managed to set another series high this week, with 5.3 million viewers. That alone is cause for celebration. Even better, the DVDs continue to sell like hotcakes. In its 13th week of release, the season was still the number one TV show. That set has now racked up over $40 million in sales. It’s crazy. But that was just one of the many stories from cable last week. We also saw huge numbers for the Wizards of Waverly Place movie, records for Warehouse 13 and Burn Notice, and new seasons announced for Leverage and Drop Dead Diva. Over at the networks … well, we’re getting close to the fall premieres. Read the rest of this entry »
Things that didn’t suck this week – Mad Men, Project Runway, and Wil Wheaton

Mad Men has come back, and the slow-burn of the first two episodes is making me completely crazy — in a really great way. Project Runway returned as well, and I begrudgingly watched it, just to find out that it’s just as ridiculous as always. And Wil Wheaton got into a nerd-fight on Leverage. Not bad for the last week of August.
Mad Men returns
Mad Men is back, you guys. Yes, it’s been back for more than just a week, but I’m so stoked about having a new episode tonight. My life is finally complete. The funny part is that, even though fans have been eagerly awaiting the premiere to find out what’s going on with everyone, we really haven’t seen a whole lot yet. Peggy and Pete haven’t really interacted, Joan apparently married her rapey fiance, Roger apparently married Jane — whom we haven’t even seen yet. So much stuff hasn’t happened, but it’s still so exciting. There aren’t any good clips on the Internet, but amc.com has this cool behind-the-scenes video of episode 2, “Love Among the Ruins.”
Leverage – Anyone else seeing double?

“Chaos, I heard you were in jail. I guess I was wrong. ” – Hardison
“Hardison, I heard you sucked. I guess I was right.” – Chaos (played by Wil Wheaton)
Nope, you’re not in the Bizarro World, but you’re close. And that guy Chaos? Not Bizarro Jerry, but Bizarro Hardison … or is that Wil Wheaton? It’s pretty hard to keep track, but I’m sure Eliot didn’t turn into a woman, though Parker may be sporting a hat now….
I can’t tell you how much fun I had watching the Bizarro team take on Team Leverage. And if you were like me, you had the fear, even just for a moment, that Team Leverage just might be bested this time.
