It’s hard to believe that the Heroes season is over already. The season was a little shorter than usual, with only 18 episodes (or 19 depending on where you look), but February is really early for a show to be ending. I suppose that’s not a great sign for the future of the show, but neither are the ratings. The only thing that could save this show is the fact that NBC is so deep in the crapper. Even so, I’m not very optimistic about a return for Heroes, and if it does I sure hope that there are some of the serious changes hinted at tonight make a big difference.

Anyway, enough about the uncertain future, let’s talk about how this season ended.

American Idol has become such a ratings juggernaut that it’s always a little surprising when something actually tops it. The Grammy Awards were able to do just that last week, thanks to the best ratings for the show since 2004. The other big event for the week was the return of Lost on ABC. It didn’t approach the Idol or Grammy numbers, but it did finish the week as the number one scripted show in the adult demo. Granted, it was the season premiere, but knocking off Grey’s, House, 2 ½ Men, and Big Bang Theory is always worth noting. On cable, the big surprise was probably the performance from USA’s White Collar and Psych. Both were well down from last week. Read the rest of this entry »

Heroes – Don’t think too hard

Bob Degon on February 1st, 2010 10:07 PM

Generally, when I watch Heroes I try to turn my brain completely off. I find it’s pretty much the only way to get any enjoyment out of the show. If you think too hard, you’re bound to come up with any number of perfectly logical questions that will no doubt have no reasonable answer. Unfortunately for me, I failed in my one goal this evening and have to say that I just don’t understand any of the actions taken by many of the characters in this episode.

It was a bit of a slow week of television. Football on FOX sent all the other networks scrambling on Sunday. Then Obama took over all the channels on Wednesday. Add in an oddly quiet Thursday and we had three pretty weak nights of numbers. Not to worry though, there was still the occasional cause for celebration. To call the NFC Championship a success would be a terrible understatement. How terrible? How about it more than doubled the Idol numbers? In non-gridiron results, FOX took advantage of the quiet Thursday, garnering some very good results for Bones and Fringe. Castle managed to grow their numbers again. And Vampire Diaries tied for second in the demo! Read the rest of this entry »

Heroes – Matt gets some revenge

Bob Degon on January 25th, 2010 10:30 PM

The fourth season of Heroes is winding down to a close, and Samuel’s plans are beginning to come together. He’s shaping up to be quite a good villain, definitely the best we’ve seen on this show since the Sylar of season one. I’m hoping that the show won’t repeat the mistake that they made in season one by letting Sylar slip away. I’m looking forward to a strong and absolute resolution to Samuel’s story in the next couple episodes. Whether or not we’ll get it is another question altogether. Heroes has let me down before.

The complete implosion of Heroes just never gets old. I’m fascinated by it, and the show found an all new low last week. Over the years we’ve seen plenty of shows fall from their once lofty heights. But to see one crash so fast, and in such a dramatic fashion, is a rare thing. On a brighter note, the week that was also brought a host of premieres, including 24, Human Target, White Collar, Burn Notice, and American Pickers. And if you want to see some really crazy numbers, click through and take a look at what iCarly did. Read the rest of this entry »

Heroes – Hiro sees dead people

Bob Degon on January 18th, 2010 10:30 PM

As if I weren’t convinced enough that Noah Bennet was pretty much the only reason to be watching Heroes, we get an episode that barely featured him, and suffered greatly because of it. Seriously, this was nearly a complete hour of moping. Samuel moped, Sylar moped, and Hiro moped. Mope, mope, mope.

Luckily we did see some storylines come to a head, so hopefully this was the last slow episode before the final installments of the year.
