Are we being too hard on FOX?

Dollhouse group night

Last week I went on about how I think Dollhouse should be shown the door. Dollhouse fans have their petitions at the ready, and their Twitter avatars changed, in support of the show. Then you’ve got people like me who say the show deserves to be canceled, thinking, “what the hell is FOX thinking, keeping such a low-rated show on the air?” Yet, on the air Dollhouse remains. In fact, FOX has just stated that it will air the full 13 episodes it ordered for the season, despite how awful the ratings have been.

People not digging this season of Dollhouse probably think FOX is out of its mind for allowing it to stay on. Hell, I even think it’s weird. Though I continue to think Dollhouse deserves the ratings it’s getting, I commend FOX for keeping the show on for the fans.

In a way I feel bad for FOX. No, really, I know it sounds like complete lunacy, but I do!

That line, which Castle used as the code to call in his “CIA guy”, is the perfect example of why “Fool Me Once” was such a great episode. Everything about the case was so random, and off the wall. But even those odd little throw away bits, like the call, were so funny. I had high expectations after seeing the previews last week, and the show lived up to all of them. Possibly even surpassed them. In addition, that great case tied in very nicely with the little drama between Castle and Alexis at home. Read the rest of this entry »

Castle as Mal ReynoldsAlright, so “crime fighter” is a stretch.

After I posted my quasi-theory on what the Firefly Easter egg might be on the Castle set, a commenter noted that there was a rumor going around that Castle would be dressing up as the one and only Captain Mal Reynolds of the Firefly class ship, Serenity. Some quick searching found the right-side image (click to embiggen), which looks as though it was taken with a cellphone camera, but it certainly looks quite legitimate. The Castle set is definitely in the background, and that’s sure as hell Nathan Fillion dressed as Mal from Firefly. But was it ’shopped? And, if not, is he wearing the get-up for an episode?

Castle Firefly Easter egg

(UPDATE: The Easter egg has been revealed … and it’s not this painting.)

This past Friday, Nathan Fillion made mention the following cool tidbit for anyone who’s a fan of Fillion or Firefly (actually you’re probably a fan of the other if you’re the fan of one, because that would just be really weird and, come on, it’s Nathan Fillion. You know, Captain Hammer. Bam, said the lady.) Apparently there’s a Firefly “Easter egg” on the set of Castle:

Nice to see Jewel Staite and Hubby at Castle today. Showed her the Firefly Easter Egg on Castle set. Can YOU find it?

Oh, the gauntlet is thrown, Mr. Hammer!

Ted Kennedy

Michael Jackson’s still making news, this time ensuring that his death was a tragedy. The official report out of the LA coroner’s office was that Jackson’s death was a homicide, brought on by the mixture of drugs he was being prescribed for his sleep disorder. So he very well may not have been too frail for those London concerts … but we’ll never know.

Project Runway: All-Star Challenge

[You'll have to work with me on this one, but it's easily the quote of the week]

“When I see boobs going all over the place I get dizzy.” — Heidi [not liking that one of the models, who was wearing a really tight t-shirt, wasn't wearing a bra]
“Me too!” — our very own Brett Love watching at home

(Season 1, Episodes 9 – 10)

With this episode, we got to see — Holy crap! Did River just cut up Jayne!? And did she just shoot three dudes without looking? Finally, some of River’s badassery is making itself known. I’m digging the team dynamic revealing itself; it’s the ensemble cast that really makes this show work.
