Eureka – Will we ever see Tess again?

“So, the laws of physics are in peril, my daughter is moving out, and the world’s coming to an end?”
We may not have had a big, multi-episode, mystery arc to conclude with the finale, but at least the stakes were at proper finale level. A polar shift threatening the whole of the planet? That’s big. And it came with some fun FX and a huge collection of the crazy science. So, thumbs up in that regard. Of course, the bigger story this week is the little lingering questions left behind. Zoe is off to Harvard, thanks to a recommendation from Henry. More interestingly though, suddenly Tess is no longer the head of Section 5. With no gig at GD, she’s off to Australia to work on a huge radio telescope array. Is it curtains for Jack and Tess? Or, more to the point, will we ever see her in Eureka again? Eureka – The Iceman Cometh

And his name, is Tag.1 Really, that’s the big story this week. And that alone made “Have An Ice Day” a must see for me. I’ve been a big fan of Eureka from the get go, but if there was one thing I could have changed along the way, it would have been keeping Tag around. He’s such a great character, and really adds a lot to the show. Instead, we got more Larry? Now, Larry certainly has his moments, but he’s no Tag. Anyway, it’s great to have him back. And the good news is that Frewer says he would like to come back for more episodes in the next season.
Now that we’ve welcomed back Tag…. Is next week really the big finale? Does anyone else think that this just doesn’t feel like the end of a season? It’s almost as if these last couple episodes have kind of been an afterthought, and it puts the show in something of a strange place. It’s still a fun ride, but it lacks a certain weight that we’ve become accustomed to. Read the rest of this entry »
Eureka – You don’t know Jack….

… But I bet you know clip show. Gah! Clip show! I did not see that coming. Although, really, I should have. After the surprise was sprung, I started to recall talk of a clip show from the producers. Still, as a general television watching rule, I don’t like the clip show. All too often it serves no other purpose than to get another episode in the can without spending any money, offering little in return for the loyal viewer. There was a bit of that to this one, but I will give the folks down at Eureka HQ credit. They did at least work a reasonable Eureka story in to explain all of the flashbacks. That, and they chose to show us Allison in her underthings again, which always counts as a positive. Read the rest of this entry »
Eureka – Water water everywhere

It was a bit of a rough week in Eureka. For me, “Shower The People” unfortunately had more misses than hits. The potential was there, but nothing seemed to really work. The idea behind the compressible water was good, but the case it was key to wasn’t all that exciting. Billy Campbell made an appearance as Dr. Manlius, which felt like they didn’t have the time to do what was originally intended. Henry struggled with losing Kim 2.0, and that was an awful lot like what we’ve already seen him go through. And we’re back to the Carter and Allison shenanigans, which is working on my last “F Moonlighting” nerve.
Eureka – Kim is back, and she brought Snow Crash with her

Well now, that didn’t take long. After the drawn out mystery of Eva Thorne, I’m a little surprised that we got to the bottom of “The Signal,” and the ship, so quickly. Of course, having those questions answered doesn’t put the story to rest. There is still a lot of mileage to be had with the return of Kim Yamazaki (Tamlyn Tomita). Or, rather, with the appearance of Kim 2.o. Her presence opens a lot of doors for where things can go in Eureka, and provides the launching pad for a great Henry story. Read the rest of this entry »
Eureka – Imagine greater… ways to jam commercials into the show
Ya know, I really like Eureka. The writers have created a wonderful little world, full of great characters. And while the stories often lack the weight of their more serious sci-fi peers, they make up for all of that by being incredibly fun. Because of that, I kind of want to give them a pass on this latest bit of “product integration.” But come on, it’s a little much, right? We’ll get to that in a bit. When it wasn’t pimping Subaru WRXs, “If You Build It” also brought a swift end to the mystery of The Signal, complete with zombies, kind of…. Read the rest of this entry »
Eureka – Bite me, Kermit
Apparently it’s still too early in the season for us to get any real detail on just what “The Signal” is all about. Something is headed for Eureka, and plenty of folks seem to be all kinds of nervous about it, but that’s all we know. In that respect, we’re in the same boat as Carter, as nobody is telling him anything. I have a bit of an issue with that, but we’ll get to that later. “It’s Not Easy Being Green” also introduced us to Eureka’s rivals, from Area 51, and brought a quick resolution for last week’s Lexi/Duncan cliffhanger.
