Ratings Clack – The Grammy Awards beat Idol

American Idol has become such a ratings juggernaut that it’s always a little surprising when something actually tops it. The Grammy Awards were able to do just that last week, thanks to the best ratings for the show since 2004. The other big event for the week was the return of Lost on ABC. It didn’t approach the Idol or Grammy numbers, but it did finish the week as the number one scripted show in the adult demo. Granted, it was the season premiere, but knocking off Grey’s, House, 2 ½ Men, and Big Bang Theory is always worth noting. On cable, the big surprise was probably the performance from USA’s White Collar and Psych. Both were well down from last week. Read the rest of this entry »
Quotation Marks – Deloreans, baby daddys, and what Penny does
After covering this week’s Big Bang Theory, it feels like I have already written this week’s installment of Quotation Marks. It was certainly a laugh-a-minute episode, and I brought back my favorite two quotes from the episode for the weekly edition. Also making its — to my memory — first appearance is White Collar. It is nice to see House show up as well, but we seemed to have misplaced Psych this week. Did you see it? What were your favorite quotes?
Supernatural
“Time travel was difficult even with the powers of Heaven at my disposal.” — Castiel
“Which you cut off….” — Sam
“So what, you’re like a Delorean without enough plutonium?” — Dean
“I don’t understand that reference….” — Castiel Read the rest of this entry »
Bones – The Devil lost, as he always must

In every episode of Bones, we are “treated” to an exploration of Dr. Brennan’s distaste for all things that cannot be empirically proven. When “The Devil in the Details” started, you are left with the impression that the focus would be on Booth’s religion. The twist, however small, is that the episode really focused on Bones’s problems with psychiatry, a theme given a face, early on, by her differences with Josh Malina’s Dr. Copeland.
Ratings Clack – Everybody loves football, and Bones

It was a bit of a slow week of television. Football on FOX sent all the other networks scrambling on Sunday. Then Obama took over all the channels on Wednesday. Add in an oddly quiet Thursday and we had three pretty weak nights of numbers. Not to worry though, there was still the occasional cause for celebration. To call the NFC Championship a success would be a terrible understatement. How terrible? How about it more than doubled the Idol numbers? In non-gridiron results, FOX took advantage of the quiet Thursday, garnering some very good results for Bones and Fringe. Castle managed to grow their numbers again. And Vampire Diaries tied for second in the demo! Read the rest of this entry »
Quotation Marks – Prophetic-ness, Perry, and pirates
Even if I hated Psych (which I don’t), I would still love it every time it came back. It’s one of the more quotable shows on television today, and always seems to make an appearance (or, you know, fill the page up) when it airs live. This week’s return was no exception. It is good to have Shawn and Gus back. On the other hand, a show that we don’t see enough of in here is Castle, and I’m making it my new mission to get good quotes each week. Enjoy!!
Psych
“From what my sis says, you … you’re the amazing one.” — Ewen
“You said that?” — Shawn
“I said that you were prophetic.” — Jules
“What? You’re prophetic!” — Shawn
“Shawn, he’s going to come back with a bar of soap and a towel!” — Gus
“Would you relax. There’s now way we’re going to get D’Onofrio-ed.” — Shawn
Bones – Seeley Booth, and love at first sight
The interesting dynamic between Dr. Temperance Brennan and Seeley Booth has been fairly well defined for over four seasons of television now. Bones is the cut and dry, to the point, exacting scientist. Booth is the trust his gut, feel his way, law enforcement officer that always gets his man (or woman). One believes that love between two people is an antiquated belief which is better explained by brain chemistry, while the other, at least until this week, believed in love at first sight.
Ratings Clack – Heroes: Sack The Cheerleader… Save The Network?

The complete implosion of Heroes just never gets old. I’m fascinated by it, and the show found an all new low last week. Over the years we’ve seen plenty of shows fall from their once lofty heights. But to see one crash so fast, and in such a dramatic fashion, is a rare thing. On a brighter note, the week that was also brought a host of premieres, including 24, Human Target, White Collar, Burn Notice, and American Pickers. And if you want to see some really crazy numbers, click through and take a look at what iCarly did. Read the rest of this entry »
